II. J. Bigger Has a Place That is famous
Beautiful Flowers and Fine Vegetables

The above residence and grounds
are the property of If. J. Bigger, and
are located In this city at Greenpolnt,
overlooking the Willamette river. Mr.
Digger arrived In this city about one
year ago and purchased the house and
10 lots from W. S. U'Ren, who was
at that time residing there. Since he
look possession he has worked hard
bv Improving the house and grounds.
The latter is a regular gnrden spot,
with Its hundreds of blooming plants
and vines. One of the features of the
ornamental grounds Is a pond, where
the snowy white water llllles are
blooming, and where several hundred
gold fish abound. Great hedges of
sweet peas are used as a dividing I
line of the gnrden. the hedges ol
which are eight feet high and three
feet wide. These vines are literally
covered with the sweet scented blos
soms. The large beds of geraniums
intermingled with the variegated
shades of the bordering plants, and
the long beds of bright colored dah
lias, of which there are over 20 va
letles. surrounded by the well kept
lawn, make this one of the most at
tractive homes In this city.

ment of his property on Eleventh
street, on the ground that the assess
ment of $1400 Is confiscatory, that
proper notice of the Improvement was
not given by the city council, that the
remonstrance against the Improve
ment was effective, but was not con
sidered no by the council, and that
the probable cohI of the Improvement
wuh not legally determined, John T.
ApperHOn has filed a suit against the
municipality of Oregon City and asks
for an Injunction rent raining the city
from proceeding with tho Improve
ment of Eleventh street, which has
already been ordered.
The complaint wa drawn by State
Senator Hedge. Captain Appcrson Is
a non-resident property owner, being
a resident of Park place, and for that
reason was not allowed by charter to
remonstrate against the Improvement.
He states that the value of the Elev
enth street half of his property, which
I block 50. doe not exceed the as
sessment for the Improvement.

Mr. Bigger is not only In the flor
ist business but has also raised veg
etables for the market. He has erect
ed a green house on his place, and
has been marketing tomatoes for the
past month, receiving the highest mar
ket price for same. From his aspar
gus bed, which covers one-fourth of
an acre, he sold this spring $150 worth.
The aspargns was planted many
years ago by the late Richard Glass
pool, who formerly owned this place.
Mr. Bigger Is generous with his
flowers, and all visitors to this bea
tlful place are always presented with
hugh bouquets of his choicest flowers.
He is a lover of- flowers and from the
appearance of his home the visitors
can easily see that he is a man of
thrift and good taste. Before coming
to Oregon City he resided at Wood
burn, where he lived for one year.
He came to that city from the Yukon
territory, where he resided for 10
years, being In the general merchan
dise business. His two sons are at
present in charge of his business
there. Mr: Bigger is contemplating
making a change in location, and his
