There isn't much doing in the real estate world in our city this week. although a deal or two has gone through. We are very sorry to hear that El lery Capen, of Capen Shoe Company had a stroke of apoplexy Monday, but glad he is feeling much better. John Ream is improving right aloug from his illness. The church social was a grest suc cess. A good programme was ren dered and the shadows of the girls cleared over $20. Prayer meeting every Wednesday evening in the M. E. Church. Every body is welcome. There was quite a crowd of young and old people that attended the Feld Meet at Gladstone. Arline Olson took first prize in literature, Ernest Mass, Jr., second prize in vaulting, and Leslie Henry, fourth in the races. The Willamette baseball team was defeated by the Molalla team by a score of 17 to 5. B. F. Baker, of Independence, was visiting with his mother and brother the first of last week. Miss Maggie aad Irene Harmon, of Portland, spent Sunday with their grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Gary. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Foster, a baby girl, Mrs. Foster is Btaying with her sister, Mrs. Otto Olsen. Mrs. Shades, of Portland, spent a week with her mother, Mrs. Ellery Capen. ' Mr. and Mrs. Arch Ross were pleas antly surprised on Saturday morning by Mr. Ross's mother arriving. Mrs. Ross has returned from the East where she spent the winter and spring. Gunther Schoenheinz and Luella Haselton, of Portland, spent Sunday with Mr. Schoenheini's mother. There is but little sporting news this week. The small boys baseball team defeated West Side Oregon City by a score of 9 to 10, and they were defeated by the Oregon City team by a score of 7 to 8. There were four boys from here who played with Stafford last Sunday. The Statford team played Mt. Road. The game was a good one, being the best one played on the ground so far. There was no tally made until the last half of the seventh inning, then the Stafford boys "opened their eyes and got Into their fighting clothes." eo tbey say, and at the end of the ninth inning the score stood 11 to 3. What rain we had Saturday and Sunday benefited the crops a whole lot throughout this valley. The Macksburg Telephone Com pany completed its new line from Macksburg south to T. M. Matthews' corner last week. Mr. Keisllng is talking of going to Colorado in a few weeks, to look at some government land there. The Clarkes school had an enter tainment last Saturday evening and they enjoyed it all, and sold baskets. Mr Rnhnhel. from Beaver Creek, was out, and he was the auctioneer. They made about $27. Mr. Bottemlller Is fencing In his orchard. He is setting the posts now. Miss Mary Marshall is home again. Alex Scherruble went to Portland Monday. Mrs. Will Marshall was in town last week. W. G. We have had a typical Oregon rain since lust Wednesday and although the rainfall, taken altogether , was no more than about an inch, taken with the warm, cloudy weather. It did an immense amount of good. After a successful year of school work, Miss F.tlto Grace closes Iter school on Friday, June 4. Mr. Aerni ami family went to Beth any Sunday to attend the golden wed ding of the father and mother of Mrs. Aerul. which was celebrated tu the church Monday. After a programme, piepared expressly for the occasion, a bountiful dinner was served in the church dining room of which about 230 partook, after which photographs were taken. There were about "a relatives present, representing four generations. Many and beautiful present were received. The father is S2 and the mother 70. Mrs. May and family are over the measles. It is reported that Miss Anna Schatx was married Monday. Mr. Xussbaum Is putting in his po tatoes with a planter, worked by hors es. A number of the neighbors want him to plant their potatoes with the machine. We had no mall on Monday. Do not know why, as Sunday was the legal holiday, and as we understand It, Monday was declared a holiday only locally. Owing partly perhaps to the damp aud cloudy weather, but few appeared at the grave yards to work on Satur day, and in consequence they present the same uncared for appearauce as ever. MEADOW BROOK. Mr. Schafer has his new mill In op eration. The new mill Is located one- half mile down the creek from where the other one burned. Mr. Engle has about a half mile graded on south Main street. . His contract calls for the work to be com pleted by the first of January, 1910, to or near the Canby Canal Company's headgate on the Molalla. Frank Lane and family, of Newport, Oregon, are visiting with A. Larkln's this week. Mr. Dennison, one of our prominent farmers aud politicians, was In town Saturday, shaking hands and talking finance to the people. Died, May 26, the Infant son of Mr. aud Mrs. Schafer. The remains were laid to rest In the family burying ground on the old homestead. Miss Fluffey Ruffles has been spend ing a few days in town. Look aleetle out, boys. Charles Holman and wife were vis iting at the ranch Saturday and Sun day. One of the promoters of the Union Irrigation Company was out last week. We hope to soon see the dirt moving alone the line.
