The showers of the past few days
have been very beneficial.
John Taylor, who owns a part of
the Ben Koop D. U C. is moving the
Sevier hop house across the road near
the site of the old homestead and will
build an addition thereto.
E. G. Sconce and Grant Yoder went
to Portland last Friday to be present
at the civil service examination to
be held there on the 15th. Both the
boys expect to be railway mail clerks,
and although we are loth to see them
leave the community, yet we hope the
boys may be successful and answer
all questions correctly.
Mrs. L. D. Yoder left last Sunday
for Seaside, Or., to visit her son,
Henry, and daughter, Ida, the latter
being in ill health.
Last Tuesday evening the friends
and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. I. J.
Blgelow gathered at their late home
in the role of a farewell gathering.

away the evening until the "wee sma'
hours," when light refreshments were
served and the company dispersed to
their several homes. Mr. Blgelow ha3
sold his farm and gave possession last
Saturday. They will visit friends and
relatives In Portland for a few dnya,
and then expect to sojourn at Martin's
Springs, Wash., for the benefit of Mr.
Bigelow's health.

Many of the friends and neighbors
attended the funeral of Mrs. Joe John
ston, who died at Canby on Wednes
day, the 12th. She was burled at the
Gribble cemetery on Friday, May 14,
at 3 P. M. Mr. and Mrs. Johnston
were pioneers in this community, hav
ing moved to Canby a year ago last
March.
Many of the hop growers of this
vicinity complain that the vines are
late and many of the hlUs missing.

Friday, May 14, after a very buctchb
ful school term of eight months, under
the direction of the able and efficient
teacher, Mr. Joseph Y. Berthune. Each
pupil upon being presented with a
report card, was greatly surprised and
delighted to find the report card was
led hv a handsome printed
souvenir containing the names of the
pupils of the school, the school direc
tors as well as the name of the county
superintendent, Prof. T. J. Gary. This
dainty little gift was given with the
best wishes of the teacher for the fu
ture welfare of each and every pupil.
Upon the following day, a picnic
was held at high noon In the beauti
ful school grove, and was thorough
ly enjoyed by the large number In at
