No matter how well mother may feel she is continually on the mend. It is Important to have clear vision. Even the potato must have sound eyes. Neither a boil nor a cabbage amounts to anything unless it comes to a head. If young Spendthrift would settle down he might soon be able to settle up. One of the most Insiduous and un expected forms of attack, is to tread upon a taclu You can not always gauge the im portance of a man by the angle at which he wears his hat. There is quite a difference between the door-jamb and the jam that moth er used to make. "There is the wreck of time!" ex claimed Jones, as his clock fell from the second-story window. There are no stripes on a flagstone, but if one falls on it had enough he will be likely to see stars. Some of the neckwear worn by fashionable young men is so loud that you can hear it in the next block. A simple worm went out to play Upon an April morning; An early robin chanced that way Without a chirp of warning; And that is the end of the story. Most anybody can retail butter. eggs, and vegetables, but we have never met a man smart enough to re tail a dog. Sometimes when a woman throws a brick at an old hen in the garden, It is harder on the scenery than it is on the hen. The best way to cultivate an appe tite is to cultivate a field, and then you will have both an appetite and the wherewithal to appease IL Some folks have rats in their gar rets, some have rats In their cellars, Because hard work made them so, don't be ashamed of bent shoulders. It is better to be bent in the back than broke in the pocket. Get out of the notion of making "beds" in your garden. Long rows are best Then the horse or the wheel can do most of the work. Working so late in the field makes supper late: and the tired mother must wash the dishes and potter about until bedtime. Instead of resting. Bet ter have an earlier supper and an hour to read and rest. Half a mill or mill higher each succeeding year! We must watch taxation and public expenditure, or, with valuation at i fane selling price, the man who is In dc'n, the man who has sickness, crop fai'tiro, or loss of stock, and the poor fellow who never learns to manage well, can not hold their farms. HINTS FOR STOCK OWNERS. Womanly Wisdom. How to mark table linen upset the gravy. Mau sues for woman's haud before marriage; she sews for him after ward. Do the outside painting while the dust Is still mud and before lusects appear. Iron your handkerchiefs In the mid dle first. Then they will not be so apt o pucker. Inspect the cellar often, and never allow any animal or vegetable matter to decay there. Every farmer's wife ought to have a book In which to keep her ought-to-buy-orgraphy. That is, the things she ought to purchase. How Is your carpet sweeper? Some times all that is needed to muke a sweeper (that you think Is worn out) do good work is to have the springs put In proper shape, or some new ones in place of the old ones. Do you have any further need for your little carriage that baby rode In? If not, there may be a poor woman near you who would be very thank ful for It. She will give her little ones a ride In it, and it will do them all good. When asparagus Is laid down In the water the tips cook to a pulp be fore the lower ends of the stalks are tender. Cut the bunches level across the bottom and stand them up in a pot of- boiling, slightly salted water, which reaches not more than halfway up the stalks, and cover closely. Have some buttered toast in a hot dish; lift the asparagus out to drain on this, and serve with a little melted butter. Rooms 6 and 7 Masonic Bldg. The Turkish Marriage. In Turkey marriage Is a strictly civil act, the validity of which con sists in Its being attested by at least two witnesses; and although an imam, or priest. Is usually present at the signing of the contract, It Is In his legal rather than in his religious ca pacity. The civil ceremony Is sim plicity Itself. The bridegroom and his witnesses repair to the home of the bride, in the selamllk of which her male relatives discuss with them the payment of the neklah. The ques tion settled, and the contract drawn up, the bridegroom repeats hlB de sire to marry the daughter of the house, upon which the Imam proceeds to the door communicating with the haremllk, behind which the bride and her female relatives are assembled. After announcing the amount of the neklah agreed upon, the Imam asks the maiden If she accepts the suitor for her husband. The question and the affirmative answer having been thrice repeated, the Imam returns to the selamlk, where he attests the con sent of the bride, and the couple are considered to be legally married. The bride and groom do not meet, however, until the conclusion of the dughun ziafeti, or week of wedding festivities, which may not be held for some months afterward. E.
