Justice repaired to a near by saloon to

STONE.
The most of our people are able to
be up and on the go even in the wet
rain. One who is kind of lazy would
think that traveling out and being in
the Oregon mist would be kind of wet
business. If such persons were in
Illinois at present and had to face a
blizzard for a few days, we think it
would be unbearable.
As we look out this morning and
see the green grass and the spring
time on the 24th day of November,
1908, here in Clackamas County, it
will do for people to live in Illinois,
who don't know and care to, that
there is such a country as the Oregon
Country and especially Clackamas
County.
The Mumpower and Llllie saw mill

LOGAN.
The voters failed to agree on a tax
levy and the manner of applying the
money, at the road tax meeting on
thA iHh Tho mMllnff vis holt! In
tne evening and many failed to come
on that account Judge Dlmick was
present and spoke for about an hour,
explaining the manner of conducting
the county's business. He read a pub
lished report showing that Clackamas
County's expense account is smaller
than that of other counties, according
to size and population. He said that
he and the late Richard Scott had
compared the taxes of Clackamas and
Multnomah counties and proved the
latter much higher on account of the
higher valuation and he also said that
Clackamas builds a road for 1800 per
mile that in Multnomah would cost
$5000, owing to expensive engineer
service in cross sectioning and other
things. The Judge thinks the Initia
tive law liable to prove expensive and
unsatisfactory, but that the referen
dum is a valuable safe-guard. A vote
of thanks was given the speaker.
