WATER RIGHT EXTENDED.
City Obtains Concessions From Light
and Power Company.
The city council Wednesday night
passed to Its second reading the ordi
nance granting, a franchise to the
Portland Hallway, Light and Power
Comnany. conveying permlaalon to
erect polos and string wires along
Water street. This action was taken
to enable the company to transfer its
equipment from Main street, where
wires must bo either placed under
ground or removed. The city reaps
considerable benefit from the new or
dinance as the company agreea to give
an extension of 12 years to the city
for wator privileges. The water com
mission has a 13-year lease for water,
and thla will make a total of 25 years,
so that Oregon City will not have to
worry about her water supply for
many years to come.
The council laid on the table the
ordinance providing for an annual li
cense fee to be paid by physicians and
dentists to tho city. There was some
dlnVronce of opinion among the pro
fessional men relative to the provi
sions of tho ordinance, and as they
could not all agree the matter was
laid to rest.
