SPRINGWATER.
The Springwater Dramatic Club will
give a play entitled "A Face at the
Window," on April 25, at 8 p. m. The
proceeds will be used to prolong the
school term. Everybody cordially in
vited.
Mr. Shearman, who bought the
Whitehead farm, has moved on the
Lacroy place until he can get pos-
session of the place he purchased.
Rev. Robertson from Hillsboro,
preached here last Sunday. It is
more than likely that be will become
the pastor of the Springwater church.
REDLAND.
The primary election passed off
quietly enough, though considerable
interest was evinced by those work
ing for their personal friends, who
were contestants for a place on the
ticket.
We are glad to see that Mr. Mat
toon, of Viola, has received the nom
ination for commissioner. He has
been a life long resident of Viola and
has continually struggled forjthe up-
llftment and advancement of "eastern
Clackamas county.
His nomination I
la but a tardy recognition of the claims
of our district, which has probably
poured more money into the treasury
and drawn out less than any other
district in the county. Mr. Mattoon's
complete knowledge of road building
and affairs relative to bridges, roads,
etc., has peculiarly fitted him to fill

EAGLE CREEK.
The past few days we have been
enjoying some fine, refreshing show
ers. We should be grateful for those
showers, for they win cause the crops
and garden truck to grow.
Henry Udell and family visited
James Gibson last Wednesday after
noon. A. J. Douglas sold some hogs to
Gus Burnett, Saturday.
Dick Gibson is the proud possessor
of a new colt
Mr. Deardorff, of Damascus, was
seen in this burg on Sunday.
Miss Myrtle Woodle, who Is attend
ing school In Portland, came home
Friday evening and spent Saturday
and Sunday with home folks.
Eagle Creek Grange held Its regular
meeting April 19. There was quite a
crowd out, regardless of the rain. An
interesting and instructive program
was rendered and the single tax
amendment was discussed. Several
visitors w-ere present. Two candi
dates were Initiated In the third and
fourth degrees.
Wesley Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Wal
ter Douglass and Mr. and Mrs. Will
Douglass went Ashing Sunday after
noon down on Eagle Creek, and suc
ceeded In catching some fine fish.
The Oregon National Guards play
ed with the Eagle Creek nine Sun
day afternoon, and were beaten b
a score of 8 to 2. Next Sunday the
Nashville Nationals will play with the
Eagle Creeks.
Harry Kiebler spent Sunday after
noon with Ray Woodle.
Mrs. Viola Douglass called on Mrs.
Palfrey Sunday, afternoon.
Mrs. Bertha Batton, of Eagle Creek,
was up Sunday to see her mother,
Mrs. Cassedy, who has been quite ill
for some time.

evidently placed there by some one to

Mr. Wood of Graverne Is quite aer
lously ill of heart traublo. and Is not
expectod to live. Tho children, soma
of whom live in Washington, have all
been summoned. Dr. Rlckrcal of Sher
wood Is attending the stricken man.

Councilman Weed left this week for
an extended trip to Klamath Falls
and vicinity.
A local lodge of Masons was Insti
tuted at Canby on Wednesday of last
week by Grand Master Plorco of Sa
lem, and twelve local Masons. The

J. W., E. L. Dodge; Treaa., L. 11.

fornia. The prospects at present are very

ries. There are no vacant houses in Can
by and several new residences are In
course of construction.
The Improvement Club met Wed
nesday night to further consider the
matter of locating the County fair at
Canby. An Ideal site has been promis
ed free of charge, $1000 will be raised
to erect the buildings better Induce
ments than any other section has
come forth with.
The meeting Saturday night In the
Interests of a County high school was
not very largely attended. Cauby does
not seem ver enthusiastic about tna
matter. '
CLACKAMAS
Easter services were held in both
Methodist and Congregational chur
ches last Sunday.
Clackamas Grange 298 held Its re
gular meeting Saturday evening, with
a larger attendance than usual. Bro
ther David Croyle was obligated In
the third and fourth degrees. Commu
nications from the Legislative Com
mittee of the State Grange were read,
and a committee appointed to circu
late the petitions relating to the sever
al bills accompanlng them; the par
cels post, etc. The Lecturer's hour
was occupied by a good program on
"Home", as outlined In the April num
ber of the Grange Bulletin.
While the Grange was In session
the children were having a fine time
In the kitchen coloring efLj. During
the recess declared by tho Worthy
Master, old and young repaired to the
dining hall to sample the feast of
Easter eggs. After recess all Joined
in singing "Old Folks at Home." The
meeting was then closed in due form.
The boys of the Clackamas school
will give an entertainment Friday ev
ening April 24 at Grange Hall. Admis
sion 10 cents.
E. B. Kellcy has sold his place East
of town, but does not expect to leave
Clackamas at present.
Victor Wlckland haa bought the
Gruber place. It Is reported that his
parents will ocupy the cottage and
Victor will "batch" at the farm.
Miss Isabella Mather, who has been
seriously 111 for two weeks, is slowly
Improving.
A good many children In the commu
nity, and some of the older ones, are
down with the mumps.
Mrs. S. A. Helms and Lula Hayward
were out from Portland Sunday.
E. O. Hayward and family spent
two days with relatives here last
week.
The school children are making good
use of the free library sent by the
State Commission. Not half-a-dozen
books of the fifty sent will remain un
read by them.
Base ball Is the chief end of boys
now-a-days; and the young men are
working to improve the grounds and
get new suits.

Roy Johnson has taken off quite a

tho eggs, there being 78 hatched. Mrs.
Reed has her Incubator at Johnson's,
as has J. DeardorfT. Both are full of
eggs.

with their parents, Mr. C. and Mis.
Florence Ott. All enjoyed a pleasant
