Jack Howell and his friend Arthur
Lewis, who lately arrived at William
Harris' saw mill from Caerphilly, have
left the saw mill work and have gone
to Clem, Oregon, to try working on
a farm. They move from one job to
the other; first they try herding
sheep and then they try following a
four-mule team harrowing wheat on
the thousand-acre farm of Mr. Wllk
1ns. "Oh Jack will make a teamster
yet." Tho people around Beaver
Creek liked Jack very much and they
miss his smiling face. They hope to
see him bnck there before long, but
they aro all afraid he will take a no
tion to go back to his old home In
Caerphilly before he goes back to
Beaver Creek. '
George Strong has been quite busy
clearing his farm tho last week.
Oscar May, wife and family spent
Sunday visiting with relatives In Sell
wood. Ralph Howard of Cnrus, Is working
for his brother Norman.
Our school was closed Monday for
the day on ncount of the Illness of
our teacher. Miss Wilson.
Mrs. Mary Schurzlnger died at her
home near Linn's Mill Saturday night
at 8 o'clock, after a short Illness of
consumption, aged 46 years. Mrs.
Schurzlnger was a woman who was
well liked by all her friends and rela
tives and she will be greatly missed
in these parts. She Is survived by a
husband and three children, the old
est child being six years old. Inter
ment was In the Catholic cemetery at
Mt. Pleasant.
Heylman for Legislature.
W. A. Heylman, cashier of the
Bank of Estacada, has filed his peti
tion for the Democratic nomination
for the legislature. Being a Democrat,
Mr. Heylman declares his allegiance
to Statement No. 1.
