declare that no candidate for a leg
islative office Is entitled to the sup
port of tho electors of tho state unles
ho is pledged to aupport Jeglalatlon
(upon thl subject that la In the Inter
est of tho development of tho atate.

"no" candidate for legislative office Is
entitled to the aupport of tho electors
of thla state unless ho is broad enough
to support legislation upon this sub

commonwealth for private gain."
The public school of McMlnnvlllo
opened Monday morning with an en
rollment of 434 pupil., and most fav
orable prospects for a successful
school year. A great many children
did not start the first day, on account
of having farm work to finish. The
enrollment will reach over 600 by next
Monday.

but were unknown to each other at
that tlmo. Twelve children wore born
to thla union, eleven lived to man
hood and womanhood four aona and
aevon daughter. All are married ex
cept ono, MIm llortha, tho youngcat,'
who la In the homo with her parent.
A coincidence In tho 11' of theae
two old people: They came to Ore
gon In October, were married In Oc
tober, their oldoat child waa born In
October; alao their flrat grand
child, and their own birthday are In
October.
Mr. and Mr. May enjoy life and are
energetic and In good health. Mr.
May iiHiiully outworka the average
man of many year hi junior. Laat
Tueaday, tho fiftieth annlveraary, the
children or theae two gathered In and
with tho grandchildren enjoyed a
feaat fit for a king. Five daughtera
and aona In law and three aona. with
their wive and eighteen grandchild
ren, were there. Many gift of gold
were laid In tho hand of father and
mother, and aubatantial gift from the
abaent one were aent.

tho family, Mr. R. M. C. Drown.
Two daughtera, Mr. Ella Nlckel
on of Walla Walla, Mrs. Jennie Mil
ler of Spokane and Edward May, a
on. of Malheur, were unable to be
with them.
It wa a Joyoua reunion and with
mimic of violin and organ and aonga
tho day waa spent and good wlahe
for the bride and groom of fifty year
ago.

Ed Hettman has purchased a new
chopper.
Horn, to Mr. and Mrs. Hofstetter, a
daughter.
W. H. Wettlaufer went to town and
brought out a load of separators and
four cream cans.
Division 14 had a business meeting
last Monday.
Peter Krender waa In town last
week on Wednesday, and when he
was on the road his horse took Rick
and he came a far as Tallman and
his horse dropped and died. Ho ha
purchased a new team.
Albert Durst I going to Seattle,
Wash., to visit hla slater, Uerger.
We have rain now and it Is is spoil
ing the prunes and if It keeps this
way the farmers will atart to plowing.
Mra. Ren Marshall went to Port
land to visit her parents.
Henry Klleusmlth went to Port
land for a few days.
Otto Elmer is Intending to go to
the high school.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mueller and
family spent Sunday afternoon with
William Mueller.
Mr. Snyder from Portland visited
Mr. Wettlaufer last week.

We are having a little Oregon
"mist" at present.
T. L. Sagar spent Sunday at home.
Mrs. H. Wallace and H. Turnes and
family spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Evans.
One of Mr. Stark's horses ran an
eight-penny nail In Its foot, making it
quite lame .
Mr. and Mrs. O. Dlx spent Sunday
at home.
11. Wallace and son spent Sunday at
Logan, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fisher,
the latter retrunlng with a new horse.
Lee Adklns and family are moving
to Dlx's Mill.
The two little daughters of Mr. and
Mrs. W. Wallace are numbered with
the sick; some better at present
writing.
