Viola, Doc. 12. Mr. Ward is having on addition built to his ham. A pleasant party was given to the young people of Viola on Saturday ev ening by Mrs. E. J. Fickens. John Hamilton has moved into his Hew residence. An eight pound baby girl arrived at William Hicinbothom's, December 5. Clarence Ray, who is working for Ir. Fullaru at Redland. spent Sunday with friends near Viola. The planking of the road to Ore gon City will soon be completed. Much volunteer work is being done by Viola citizens. A few years ago Viola was favored by having a postoffice of its own. Then we could get the county paper the next day after it was printed. As it is now we receive the Enterprise on Monday; another change or two and we 'will be a back number. Rev. Patton, who has been holding evangelistic meetings at Clarks, de livered a sermon at Viola Sunday. The meetings at Clarks were a great success. Forty-seven were taken into the church on December 2. STATE WARRANTS FOR U. S. ROAD TAX Secretary of State Sends Out Area Graded Apportionment to Counties. Secretary of State Dunbar issued Thursday at Salem the warrants for the distribution of the United States five per cent road fund, which is ap portioned among the counties accord ing to area. Clackamas county -with 1,107,200 acres of land receives $108.43. Har ney, with G,7S0,1G0 acres, received the largest sum, $2,301.45; Malheur fol lowing closely with G, 277, 440 acres and receiving $2,215.98. Multnomah has the smallest acreage, 2S1.920, and gets the smallest amount, $104.01. President Roosevelt is voted the Nobel peace prize by the Norwegian Storthing (parliament) in recognition of his services in ending the Russo Japanese war. The prize carries with it 138,530 crowns or $37,127.05 in money and this sum Mr. Roosevelt wijl convey to trustees to be used by them as the foundation of a fund the income of which is to be used in bringing together a conference at Washington of representatives of cap ital and labor for the purpose of dis cussing industrial problems and pro motion of industrial peace.
