SHORT ROUTE TO OSWEGO.
It goes without saying that Oregon
City has long desired a shorter rail
route between Oswego and the coun
ty seat. There has been a hope, in
spired mostly by the wish, that the
Willamette Falls electric line would
be extended to Oswego, but that hope
deferred has made us ill.
A wagon and foot bridge across the
river from Oswego to Milwaukie would
shorten the rail distance from ; the
former to Oregon City by many miles,
and while not as satisfactory as a west
side line would be a great conven
ience. And not only would Oswego and
Oregon City he convenienced but the
people of all the northwestern part
of the county would find their journeys
shortened. ; r-
It is said,; the only way the county
can be persuaded to undertake this
venture is 'for the people of the vari
ous communities to show a strong in-
'1rest and 'a demand for the struc
ture. Although Oregon City people
have not talked very much about it
yet, people of Milwaukie and Oswego
are beginning to. show considerable
interest and it is to be expected that
public-spirited citizens here will soon
take up the matter and discuss It
' thoroughly. '
James J. Hill, the railroad magnate,
has three sons in the same business.
James N., the eldest, is vice-president
of the Northern Pacific; Louis W. is
first vice-president of the Great North
ern, and Walter H. is right-of-way
agentfor a new line between Sioux
City and Omaha. It is generally un
derstood that Louis will be his father's
successor in the railroad world.
Is there anything more exasperating
than to have somebody who is talking
to look over your head, or to one side
of you, all the time he is trying to
convey his thought to you? If a man!
will not look you in the face, while '
he talks, you may be pretty sure you j
will not lose ' much if you turn your
eyes in another direction.
Did you ever watch the man with
nothing to do? Well, he has the hard
est job of any one we ever studied.
Loafing and idling time away may
look good to the man who is putting
in ten hours a day for six days out of
the week, but let him loaf for a couple
of weeks and the chances are that he
will be the most unhappy and dis
contented man in town.
The Polk County Observer, com
menting on the mention of fW. S,
U'Ren's name for governor, says the,
fact is Mr. U'Ren is "the biggest man '
in Oregon." The Observer and the:
Newberg Graphic botbygive the ere-,
dit for the' reform laws of Oregon to
whom the credit belongs Mr. U'Ren.
Mr. Hearst now has the Tiger
trained so that it will eat out of his
hand, but the question is will it stand
without hitching.

Dr. Pierce's Fayorite Prescription
13 a powerful, Invigorating tonic, impart
ing health and strength in particular
to the organs distlootly feminine. The
local, womanly health is so Intimately
related to the general health that when
diseases of the delicate womanly organs
are cured the whole body gains in health
and strength. For weak and sickly
women who are "worn-out," "run-down"
or debilitated, especially for women who
work in store, office or schoolroom, who
sit at the typewriter or sewing machine,
or bear heavy household burdens, and foi
nursing mothers, Dr. Pierce's Favorite
Prescription has proven a priceless
benefit because of its health-restoring
and strength-giving powers.
As a soothing -and strengthening nerv
ine. "Favorite Prescription" is un
eqaaled and is invaluable in allaying and
subduing nervous excitability, irritabil
ity, nervous exhaustion, nervous prostra
tion, neuralgia, hysteria, spasms, chorea,
or St. Vitus's dance, and other distressing
nervous symptoms commonly attendant
upon functional and organic disease of
the womanly organs. It induces refresh
Ing sleep and relieves mental anxiety and
despondency.
Cures obstinate cases. "Favorite Pre
scription " is a positive cure for the most
complicated and obstinate cases of "fe
male weakness," painful periods, irregu
larities, prolapsus or falling of the pelvic
organs, weak back, bearing-down sensa
tions, chronic congestion, inflammation
and ulceration.
Dr. Pierce's medicines are made from
harmless but efficient medical roots
found growing in our American forests.
The Indians knew of the marvelous cura
tive value of some of these roots and im
parted that knowledge to some of the
friendlier whites, and gradually some of
the more progressive physicians came to
test and use them, and ever since they
have grown in favor by reason of their
superior curative virtues and their safe
and harmless qualities.
Your druggists sell the "Favohttm Pre
scription " and also that famous altera
tive, blood purifier and stomach tonic, the
"Goldeit Medical Discovebt." Write
to Dr. Pierce about your case. He a an
