Geo. Harvey and son were visiting
his mother Saturday evening and Sun
day. Charlie Hunter's little daughter is
having the measles.

Geo. Johnson's barn shows very
plainly from the road and looks well
hope he may have enough hay to fill
it.
A good many of the neighbors are
suffering with bad colds. ,
Donley's had a goat killed by dogs !
last week, and rushing out Mr. Donley
saw and killed two of the dogs. The
run-around dogs are too numerous
Geo. Deardorff, while gathering the
eggs found a hen's egg which meas
ured 6 inches in circumference and
length around 8 inches. We would
like to buy such eggs. ,
A little story is told of a man in our
neighborhood, who having a twenty
dollar gold piece gave it to his wife
to put away. She thought first to hide
it under the carpet, but finally put it
in the coffee pot. The girls, wishing
to make coffee for dinner put coffee in
and after dinner threw out the
grounds. After a while the man com
menced to inquire for the money; the
wife remembered and the hunt began.
It has not been reported whether it
has been found or not.

AN ALARMING SITUATION.
Miss Christina Hamilton of Viola
was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bonney last
Sunday.
Last Saturday was Children's Day
at the Harding Grange. A number of
Redland people were present and a
very good time was enjoyed by all.
The chief .feature of the attraction
was the ice cream, which was served
free to everybody.
Mr. and Miss Grant, who have been
sojourning with us for some time, re
cently departed for Portland.
Mr. Ed. Barrett and wife entertain
ed a number of Logan folks last Sun
day among whom was Henry Gill, who
was only recently discharged from the
battle ship Oregon.
Mr. Brock, our central man is set
ting poles and stringing wires. The
main lines now are about completed
and the phones will be installed as
Boon as possible.
Sunday, the 10th, is Children's Day
at the M. E. Church. Everybody is
, cordially invited.
On Memorial Day the people met
and gave the cemetery a much needed
cleaning out.
Miss Hattie Polegn is working in
Oregon City.
Our mail carrier recently had a fight
with a mad hog, which is rather a dan
gerous animal to go at large.
Miss Amanda Lossumer, of Portland
was recently visiting her sister, Mrs.
Polegn.

Sever of Dix Bros', workmen went
on a strike for more wages, but were
refused, and as good hands were scarce
and they would have had to shut down
they finally agreed to pay more and
those that quit are at work again.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Wallace and daugh
ter spent Sunday with the latter par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Smith.
M. Moehnke and son are building a
new barn for G. Kirbyson.
Mr. R. Bullard and family and Mr.
W. Wallace and family are contemplat
ing moving to town.
DEAFNESS CANNOT BE CURED

The party at Mr. G. W. Derry's last
Thursday evening was enjoyed by
those present. The guests spent- the

were served.

day, June 8. A short program will
be given by the pupils in the after-

TWILIGHT.
Relatives from Oregon City visited
at the home of . Mr. Geo. Schreiner
last Sunday.

fortune to have one of his fingers bad
ly hurt while working in the machine
shop at the paper mills.
Mr. James Taylor of Portland was
a guest several days last week, at
Mountain Ash Farm.
Twilight was well represented at
the .circus last Saturday.
A surprise party was given last
Wednesday evening at Twilight Hall,
in honir of Mr. Hylton's 70th birth
day. He received from the members
of his family, a pair of gold glasses,
and from his friends a rocking chair.
They were presented to him by Mr.
Geo. Lazelle with a few well chosen
remarks. The time was most pleas
antly passed with cards, dancing and
conversation, followed by a delicious
lunch. The guests included Mr. and
Mrs. Hylton, Mr. and Mrs. Boylan, Mr.
and Mrs. Lazelle, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson,

Decoration Day was largely observ

has never seen the cemetery look so
well as this year.
The Damascus school gives a pic
nic Saturday, June '9th. It is an all
day affair. So everybody expects to
have a nice time. There will be a
good program and races also.

Ladies' Progressive Society met at
Mrs. L. M. Hunter's on Saturday,
June 2, and although the hostess was
in poor health,- think she enjoyed it
very much, there was speaking on
woman's suffrage and the anti's were
few. Suggestion was adopted to have
a celebration here, specal meeting will
be held at Mrs. E. L. Hunter's June
16th to appoint a committee for pro
ceedings, examine the ground, etc.The

precinct. A good many seem inter

Several from this burg attended the
Socialist speaking at the Grange Hall
aturday evening. Mr. Wanhope made
a fine speech.

MACKSBURG.
We are having some rainy weather
now.
Quite a number of the neighbors of
this vicinity attended the picnic at
Hubbard Saturdayand reported a fair
ly good time.
The Macksburg baseball boys play
ed at Hubbard, but they did not have
their regular team, so the score was
26 to 1 in favor of Hubbard.
There will be a picnic at Macks
burg June 23 given by the ladies and
knights of the Maccabees. " Every
body accordingly invited. Bring your
friends and lunch and stay aU day.
The Grange will hold their annual
picnic at Wright's Springs June 7.
There will be a dance at Needy June
9th, given by the Odd Felliws. A good
time is assured.

The young people who are rehears
ing for "Valley Farm," the play to be
given Saturday, June 9th, at the
school assembly hall are sparing no
pains to make It a success. Careful
plans are being made to, produce it
with more than amateur effect.
Miss Mary Holmes entertained the
Daughters of the King at Rose Farm
last Saturday afternoon Five hun
