FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11. 1904. THE RESULT. While there existed at no. time any serious doubt as to the result of Tues day's Presidential election, the large vote accorded President Roosevelt is a splendid testimonial of an admlnis-: tration faithfully discharged In the past and an experssion of perfect confidence in the ability of the Re- publican standard bearers to fear- lessly and faithfully meet evert duty that may be presented In the four years to come. The result insures a continuance of the progressive and established policies of the Republl- can party. Above everything else, it Is a positive refutation of the usual eleventh-hour canard that wss sprung by the Democrats this year with ref erence to the trusts. Especial pride in the result may be taken by the Republican voters of Oregon who loy- ally turned out to the polls and gave hve caus,Hl hlm to conclude to re Roosevelt and Fairbanks a splendid main ln Clackamas county. endorsement. The Republican ma jority approximating 40.000 is with out precedent and is a grand compli ment to President Roosevelt and his progressive policies as well as to the Intelligence of the voters of the State , Of Oregon. A FREE CITY DELIVERY. By increasing the amount of the j receipts of the Oregon City post office to the extent of about 2300 during the ensuing eight months, the people of vregon cuy tan oe iu poa.wou 10 ask for and get a free delivery of mall within the city. In order to se- cure the free delivery of mail wlthm a city, the receipt of the local post office must equal HO.OoO per annum. For the year ending July 1. last, the total receipts of the Oregon City of- i Bee. amounted to $8,700. In esti- mating the receipts of the Oregon City office for the year ending July 1. 1 next, the auditor of the post office ' department has placed the receipts at $9,100. but Postmaster Randall re-, ports that they will reach the grand ; total of $9,500. Hence an Increase of ( but $500 n the receipts of the Oregon , City office will insure a free delivery I of mall in this city. Vancouver. Washington, and Al- bany. and other smaller towns have city free delivery of mail and why should not Oregon City with a popu-; lation of 50o0 enjoy the same service. It lies with the business men and the people of Oregon City. A more lib-, era! patronage of the Oregon City office will secure the service. THE ENTERPRISE HAS A BIRTH DAY. With this week's issue, the Enter prise enters upon Its thirty-eighth year. Established In 18CG. this paper has been regularly published In this city, and for thirty years has been issued from the building in wtilcn me j plant is now located. As a country newspaper, a remarkable growth has of 0d ulapldated shacks, thrown to been attained. From the primitive gether In haste and negligence; dirty office with its crude equipment of , ule HhopH Km(,,ing of Bausagr; and years ago. has evolved a thoroughly ( Ha,.rkra,lt. Iow cIaijl, Bai,,n uf pv(,rv up-to-date establishment, equipped with a Mergenthaler linotype mach ine, good presses and the convin ces of the modern prlntery. At all times the Enterprise has labored faithfully towards the up building of Clackamas county and its extensive resources. These efforts Will u luiuiimru .,ui r.ru B.---a. With the Lewis & Clark Fair at Port land in 1305, the opportunity is in deed great for exploiting the advant- ages and opportunities that obtain in this rectlon Clackamas county is second to no , other county in the state as an agri- j cultural and manufacturing cornmun ity. Its resources are unlimited and are in their Initial stage of develop-, ment. A rich deposit of coal of un determined extent has been unearthed .. . . i -i ..N t ..no ivwubkulun ,tf a min. 1 as an huuiuvubi ... ,., eral character, gold, iron, silver, and copper existing in paying quantities. nt these facts the Enter- I prise takes pride in having its lot cat where such conditions are con- fronted. We will enter upon another year's work, resolved to devote our labors to advancing the growth and development ofv the county to the groat extent that the natural res sources of the county make possible. o Now for the city election. o . . Even Molalla went for Roosevelt, e As predicted. It was simply a ques tion of majority. Parker and Hill proved too big a pill for the Bryan-Hearst Democrats 'to swallow. The most graceful thing for the Democrats to do Is to make Roose velt's election unanimous. Clackamas county Is to be con gratulanted upon contributing 2000 to the 40.000 Republican majority In this stale. It is a safe wager that Bryan's hatchet was not buried so deeply that j its sharp edge did not protrude with deadly effect. ' o Chas. Meserve. former editor of ( the Enterprise, is now connected with the Rogue River Courier at Grants , Pass. I o It is not likely that the attempt to introduce Prohibition, under the guise of Local Option, will be made in Clackamas county again for some Unit to come. o 1 -if it does not rain In Oregon soon and Clackamas county goes for Local Option, this section of the state will be as bad as Kansas, and I will go further west" was the way in which an Oregon Cityite reviewed the situ ation a few days before Tuesday's election.
