Mr. Thomas Pankey has his new
barn completed and will move to
Southern Oregon soon, having rented

Mr. Fanton has his shingle mill
about ready to run. It will be very
handy now for any one when they
wish to build a house they can get
the lumber and the shingles at the
same place. Mr. Fanton's shingle mill
is situated very near Mr. James Ad
kin's saw mill.
Mr. Kenright and family are visit
ing Mr. George Maines and wife. Mrs.
M aines intends to return home with
them and make an extended visit.
Mrs. Chas Pembroke was the guest
of Mrs. L. Rlggs one day last week.
Mr. Will Robbins and mother who
have been visiting their son ad broth
er, Mr. J. Robbins, are going to leave
for Mexico Monday morning.
Mr. John Molzan called on Mr. J. L.
Thomas last Sunday.

The sad death of Mr, F. M. Man
ning occurred a few days ago after
an illness of five months. Besides a

ing her daughter, Mrs. Veva Kinney,

Fred aud Agnes Woodside have
moved to Meadowbrook to reside this
winter.
Mr. and Mrs. Fauts have moved
Into the Pratt house formerly occu
pied by Mr. Smith and family.
Mr. Wallace is moving his house
this week.
Edith Wiles is staying with Mrs.
Ash by at present.
The Barclay family have moved to
Marquam where they have purchased
property.
Mary and Oscar Daniels are mov
ing on to the Albright place near
Union Mills.
The Mulino Itch seems to be very
contagious.

The Garfield Literary and Debating
Society met at the Garfield school
house Friday evening, November 4.
The question for discussion was:
"Resolved, that Local Option will bo
beneficial to Clackamas County."
The speakers on the affirmative were
E. C. Huffman, J. E. Stubbs. and Mrs.
M. K. Irvln; on the negative, F. M,
GUI and W. R. Oat field. The affirma
tive speakers were eloquent and force
ful, the negative put up a lot of "hot
air." so perforce the decision of the
Judges was in favor of the affirmative.
A good program of recitations and
readings was rendered. The ques
tion for debate next Friday evening Is
"Resolved, That women should not be
deprived of the right of suffrage."
The affirmative speakers are Sulma
Rodlun. Lucretla Lemon, Mr. Wallace,
and Mr. V. R. Oat field; the negative,
F. M. Gill, J. E. Stubbs and E. C.
Huffman. Everyone Is welcome to
attend.
Dr. Ernest L. Tiffany, the temper

were present, and all enjoyed them

progressing rapidly. The excavation
of the reservoir Is moving apace. The
canyon of the Clackamas resounds
1 with the sound of labor day and night.

attended the temperance lecture at
I Garfield last Saturday In "Pa's top
buggy."
November Sth, election day, dawned
clear and bright. Little Interest Is
being manifested t tha presidential
part of the ticket.' All Interest cen
ters In the prohibition question. The
flection at Garfield Is quiet. Prohi
bition will carry Garfield precinct by
a good majority. Whiskey Is flowing
freely at Eagle Creek, several voters
being In a maudlin condition. The
probability Is that that precinct will
go wet.
November 9th. Garfield precinct on
on prohibition gives the following
vote: for prohibition 37; against ",7;
a plurality of 20. Eagle Creek gave a
plurality of 42 against prohibition.
Roosevelt carried both precincts by a
largo majority.
