The i hiin' i'H f.r Oni(.iti City for tlio orgunlz Ink ut a mllltuiy company are looking lii-lti-r since the maneuvem ut American Lake, for the reaaon that General Mo Arthtir la iial.l to have gone record aa nay lug that he did not favor cavalry com panies and butterlea heng enlisted In the atate national guard unless the state was able to own and train the horses, Buys the Journal correspondent. He does not mean that he docs not think the cav alry and battery ore not elllclent, but he think thai they would be more efficient If the atate owned and trained the horses. Should the cavalry company at Albany be mustered out Oregon City would have the best chance possible to organize the military company that was petitioned for last winter, aa this city has the first peti tion before the military board of tha state. In the matter of material for tha company, It la said that Oregon City could organize one of the best companies of any city In the atate, as there are many Spanish war veterans here who are only too anxious to commence drilling again. Then there are some promising marksmen In town who would enlist Shooting practice la to be encouraged to great extent, and there la one well-known marksman In Oregon City who could shoot In any company. Each company in the state will hav tryouts for marks manship and a team will be aelected from the beat In the state to attend the national conteat at Fort Riley. The marksmen who go to the national conteat would have all expenaea paid, and this fact would be a strong factor In getting good mark-. men to Join the company. OABTOni.
