WIGHT TTTT.T.yfl, THE FOURTH AT HOME DAY PASSED QUIETLY AT OREGON CITY. Msny Celebrations Held Throughout the County Ususl Number of Accidents. It was a "sane" celebration at Oregon City Monday. That is to say, that in the absence of a formal celebration, the day was passed in as rational a manner by those who remained at home, aa could be expected, and at the same time have aa incessant filing of seasonable explosives) by the younger generation. But the loy alty of Clackamas county people found expression at various other points throughout the county. Celebration were held at Oswego, Milwaukle. Clarke. Canby. Wllsonville, Sandy. Maple Lane and Logan. , Probably the largest crowd attended the exercises at Canby. At Oswego, Mayor Grant B. Dlmlck delivered the oration, and there were other exercises, concluding with a grand ball at night. All of the farmers of the Clarkea-High-land-Colton neighborhoods, except those who were too busy gathering their hay crop, congregated at Clarkes, where a . genuine patriotic celebration was held. Mr. Larklns was chairman of tbe dsy, and the Declaration of Independence was read by Mrs. Ada Moehnke. Senator Browne!!, of this city, delivered the ora tion. He advocated the need of less poli tics and more citizenship. The Maccabee quartette was in attendance and delight ed the auditors with a number of it best selections. The exercise were held in the grove near the Grange halL Dur ing the afternoon two games of base ball were played. Highland defeating Lo gan in a splendid game by the score of 4 to 2. Colton also defeated Shubel, but the reporter left before the five inning were completed, so that the score cannot be given. Dancing at the hall at night ended a successful celebration. COUNTY EXHIBITS AT ST. LOUIS Lane County Is Well Represented. Ore gon In 1905. World's Fair Grounds, St Louis, Mo., July 8. Several Oregon counties have sent excellent advertising natter to be placed on display in the state exhibit at St. Louis, and the results they will ob tain will be good. Too much cannot be said of the Judicious publicity of county resources, tor it will do more to secure new people for the state than any other form of advertisement Lane county and Eugene in particular have sent some fine pictures to the Ore gon building, which will accomplish won ders for that particular section jf the state. Baker county has a good pamph let on distribution, while Yamhill has alaa sent some excellent reading matter that will doubtless be the means of increasing her population materially. The pictures from Eugene are mounted on large mats and are hung in conspic uous places in the state building. They represent buildings, both business and residence, factories, farming and fruit growing scenes and in fact nearly every line of industry. A visitor can see at a glance just what he will be located with should he move to Lane county, much more than he can find out from reading matter. How many people will move to Oregon on account of the state's display here in St. Louis is of course beyond estimation, but there will be great numbers. Many pass through the building every day with the announcement that they are coming to Oregon in 1905, and coming to stay.
