Jamks Howkn Pkaii. lames Kowen, so well and favorably known in this city, died at bis home at the head of 7lh Street Monday night of pneumonia, .lumen Kowen was horn on shipboard seventy-two years ago and was of Irish lie lived in the New Fngliiml stales moving from them lo Kaunas when be married and raised mont of his laniily. Twelve years ago Mr. Kowen moved to Oregon i. 'it y w here he has resided constantly. The deceased leaves a wife and four children as follows: James Kowen, who lives at Washington, l. U. ; A. Ij. Uowen, a resident of Karlham, Iowa; Mrs. V.. II. Cooper, Oregon City and Miss Kowen, a school teacher of this county. The funeral service wag held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of Kev. A. J. Montgomery, who is a special friend of the deceased's relatives. Mr. Kowen was a shoe maker by trade but has-been engaged quite extensively at farming during most of his career. The deceased will long be remembered in these parts, for his genial manner and cheery de meanor toward all he knew. He occu pied his time of late, selling books from place to place and in this capacity was a success because of his cheerful manner aiid pleasing personality. Kntkhtainmkst at Mt.
