Clackamas county, ami more lines tire leing e.-pe.-i.illy in the manner prescribed for laying out and piiceeted for this purpo-e. Verily, the spirit of pro-1 establishing country roads. This work should be tlele .'l.'ssioi: ha- taken (irmly ahold of Oregon. Ilecause ! gated to a competent engineer, one who understand. ot our location and resources the greatest immediate benefit will come to Clackamas county. We are go ing ahead, and that. too. at a rapid rate. The dispo sition to encourage ali enterprises calculated to hurrv along our advancement had just as well be- aided, be cause th'y are coming, no matter h-ov .-tublm ri.lv they m iy be resisted at first. Our advice is to get into the band wagon and help blow the drum. The procession is moving, and moving rapidly, and while the banner of Clackamas county is at the top of the Btaff, let's keep it there. To resist the spirit of pro gression which now jH-rmeates tlie Western atmos phere is foolhardv. The key note has been sounded and everything is singing the song, of advancement. road building, and not to a board of viewer who have little or no knowledge of scientific road building. Such an arrangement would insure road being lo cated on suitable ground, where otu n-tnicted tin v would last, and money ami time would not be thrown away on impracticable routes. A VERY PATENT FACT. l:nder tin's caption, the Eugene Register, copying an editorial article which appeared in these columns a week ago, gave the article some prominence and commented as follows: "The most encouraging reports are comir.g from all up and down the Valley in re gard to t'.e growth of towns and the settlement and development of the country surrounding them. Wood burn is "rowing and prospering. The town of Of rvai.-, badly damaged by a fire that swept away its main business district, is beginning to build up. and will be a more substantial place than ever. Silverton and Dalla and all the towns of the country surround ing Salem are going ahead. We are entering upon a I jit-nod of expan.-ion, and the whole Valley and the whole ,at(. are beneficially affected. Oregon City Ei4f! pi i.-'-." "Such facts as above cannot be kept too fully before the public. The people must be made to realize that we are now living in the new Oregon, the old havii.g become merely a matter of important hi.-tory. From now on each year will bring its. sur prises in the realm of progress. The very nature of things have put behind Oregon an impetus that must, of nece.-iity, carry it forward by leaps and bounds for many years to come. The spirit that says, let Oregon grow and develop, has become general all over the state and with such a feeling amongst the masses, there remains no hindering cause to the steady, rapid advancement of the state. And the Willamette Val ley is leader in the onward movement." Whether you are satisfied with the outcome of the recent city election or not, our advice is to get into the band wagon and hurrah for a bigger, better and more important Oregon City. It's in the air that Clacka mas county and Oregon City are going to forge ahead very rapidly in the- next few years, and the way to help this condition along is to help it along. There is not a person in Oregon City but who has some in fluence for aid in thin matter, so pull the bushel up from over your lantern and let your light shine. K. lit n.
