The county court had a very perplex ing question before it Wednesday, when the people of Milwaukie, or twenty-three ol the property owners down there, pre sented to that body a contest against the election and incorporation of that place which occurred on the 25th of last month. These people claim an illegal election and allege other things in re gard to the proceedings. The court will not likely declare the election an illegal one, however, the matter may tie taken to the circuit cour'.. Meantime the officers of the new city are going on about their public business as though nothing had hapiened. Ivy Tark, the local agent of the Fa- cilic Mutual Life Insurance Company, who has just recently located in our city, is a very enthusiastic advocate of secur ing, if possible, for the city, free long distance telephone communication with Portland, and with this aim in view he is interesting himself. Mr. Park says he has no doubt that by increasing the number of 'phones in this city to 300 or 400 the company would gladly grant a request for free communication with Portland. Those of the business men of this city, whom Mr. Park had inter viewed on the matter, were easily en Haled in the cause, and express not only hope for its accomplishment, but are willing to aid in the work.
