POLITICAL NOTKS.
Mr. Kastham, in his speech at the
Citizens' meeting here a short time ago,
laid particular stress upon a question he
proiounded as to why Henator irownell
did not secure the passage of measures
in tiie Senate Unit he had promised his
constituents, at tiie session of 'i'7. Will
the gentleman kindly adjust his thinking
cap and let a few scintillating rays from
his Websterian cranium penetrate the
veil and mist that surrounds 1897 In his
mind, and he will see Senator Geo. C.
Brownell doing all that lay within his
power to organize the Legislature of Ore
gon and the political friends with whom
he is now consorting doing all within
their powei, too, in preventing the or
ganization of the Legislature, thereby
making it impossible for Henator Brown
ell or anyone else to do anything or bave
anything done. Of course, Senator
Brownell should have had Influence
enough to whip them all into line alike,
Populists, Democrats and all, but the
Senator did not have as much influence
then as his political enemies give hiui
credit (or Laving now.
