The Citizen's Party of Clackamas Coonty has indorsed the initiative and referendum amendment following the indorsement of the amendment by the Republican state and county conven tiong. From the Appeal to Reason we q iote some facts that show up the fal lacy of alleged support of the measure by the Democrats w ho formed the Citizens Party. They gu to show that the in dorsement was made merely to get in the band wagon. The Appeal showe that no Democratic legislature in any B'atfc ever passed a direct legislation law. The Republicans of Oregon twice passed the measure. Thev bave fostered it and stood forth in its support and it is in the nature of a steal when it appears in a Democratic platform : Mr. Bryan (who is greater than bis paper), gently slaps the Appeal, (which ie greater than its editor), in the face be cause it Bpeaks of the tendency of the Solid South to become Republican, and the hopelessness of any change for the better from the Democrats The Appeal tarns the other cheek also, but still in sist that the Democrats in no state where they have the power have made a single move to put into operation a single prin ciple of the Kansas City platform. In no state bave the Democrats passed a Di rect Legislation law; in no state bave tbey passed a law freeing the people from the clutches of the trusts; in no state have they passed a law protecting the laboring people from the greed of private employers; in no state have Democratic o'icials proven a friend to the laboring people the south being especially the worst section on labor, where it is treated worse than ever were chattel slaves. The Democratic party is dead and will never elect another presi dent. In 1904 the party will split as it did in 1600, because the ruling men in the party work band in band with the Reply to the following questions and satisfy the voters of this county of your honesty of purpose. You have been elected Chairman of the Citizen's Executive Committee and in your eyes everything Republican is rotten and corrupt. Stand up! Did you not agree to pay your own deputy when you were elected? Iloiird of County Cimimlsiloner Makes Allotment offload Money. The Board of County Commissioners has made the apportionment of the road fund for the current year of 1!K)2. The total Is f20.01U.92, apportioned to the following districts: No. 1 Not in many years has the Republi-1 can party placed in the field such a strong ticket as is before the voters at; this time, from top to bottom it is clean, capable and in every way satis factory. This is particularly true of the legislative ticket. It is headed by Sen ator Brownell, who is too well known to require words of praise. His majority next June will demonstrate this fact. U. G. Huntley, H. A. Webster and Hans Paulsen are men that any county should be proud of. They are men of good standing and integrity. They will reti rement the cojiity in the halls of the Ore gon legislature in a manner that will win the commendation of all the people. Vote the ticket straight. Read the plat form in every issue of the paper, between now and election day. Tub proposed Initiative and Referen dum amendment to the Constitution of Oregon will appear on the official ballot as "Initiative and Referendum amend ment" with the words "Yes" and "No." In order that the people may be familiar with this form before election day, it may be better for friends of the measure to refer to it always as the Initiative and Referendum amendment, and in using the term Direct Legislation, to explain that it refers to this amendment in Ore gon. Direct Legislation is a general term, meaning all forms of direct voting by the people including candidates as well as measures.
