Christmas was quietly observed in
tins city. Many people left Tuesday lor
various jiiits lo spend the day with rela
lives and friends. Family parlies were
held in many homes and an air of good
cheer wafted over everyone.
Services were held in 8t. John's Cath
olic Church snd in 8t, Paul's Episcopal
Church Wednesday morning and were
largely attended. The Christmas trees
i in the different churches delighted the
little ones.
I The only public event was the Second
I Annual Ball In the Armory by McLaugh
lin Cabin, Native Sonsof Oregon. Ever

joe.l. Christmas exercises were held in all
of the city churches on Christmas eve

of them and the hearts of the little ones

treat was given. The presents were re
moved from the tree and distributed
among the children. In this church the
"Star of the East" ran all through the
-program and had the ruling place in all

offer a lewatd of $100 for the arrest and

gaged in said robbery.

is authorized to appoint Fred Moehnke

The Christmas entertainment by the
Congregational Sunday School on Xnitb
Eve was highly enjoyed by a large num
ber ot children and parents. The pro
gram was under the management of Mrs.
W. A. White, and was most successfully
carried out in every detail. The song
'Santa Clans Is Coming" by Mrs. Cau
I field's class prepared everybody for the
coming of "Nick."
Never was there a more anxious num
ber of children as his bells were heard in
the distance. Finally bis coming was
realized as two little girls moved back
from the fire place at whhh they were
anxiously looking for Lira. Down the
chimney he came, and, after removing
the fire la the place, greeted everybody
with a happy "Merry Christmas." He
assisted most graciously in distributing
the many gifis for big folks and : little.
The paator's family fared most liberally.
Supt. C. II. Dye extended a Merry Xmas
to all and the exercises closed.
IT. PAULS CHURCH.
At St. Paul's Episcopal church, the
Rev. P. K "Hammond, rector, the Sun
day school Christmas festival com
menced at 7 o'clock. Christmas carols
were sang by the choir and Sunday
j school. A Christmas tree with its many
' lights delighted the children and a box
of candy and other good things sent
them home -happy. An offering was
taken for the child's "comfort cot No.
3," in the Good Samaritan Hospital.
Christmas morning the first service
was held at 8 o'clock and was followed
by the main service of the day at 10:30
at which Bpecial music was rendered by
the choir.
XMiS SERVICES AT ST. JOHN'S CHURCH.
At St. John's Catholic church Christ
mas morning mass was said in English
st 8 a. in. by the pattor, Rev. A. Hille
brand. The 9 o'clock mass was in Ger
man and high mass commenced at 10:30
o'clock. The services closed with a
solemn benediction in the evening.
Chrietnia trees for the Sunday schools
were also held at the Methodist, Baptist
and Lutheran churches.

victorious in both the basket ball and
indoor baseball games at the Y. M. C. A
gymnasium last Friday night. The bas
ket ball game was called first and re
sulted in a score of 8 to 2 lu favor of the
Oregon City Y. M. C. A. Juniors over
, the Portland Y. M. C A. Juniors. 0:6

counting bix points, and threw two goals
from fouls. The visitors threw two goals
j on fouls by the home team. In the first

feature of the game was Ch rman's ex
ceptional work at guard. He did the
best work of any man on the floor. The

The main event of the evening was the
indoor baseball game between 'the First
Battalion, 0. N. G., team, of Portland,'
and the Oregon City Y. M. C. A. team.
Over 30 spectators were np from Port
land. The game was clean and both the
visitors and the home players showed
sportsmanlike conduct all through the
game. The pitching of Williams was a
noticeable feature. Durie made two
home runp. The score was tied at the
beginning of the fifth inning, when the
home boys took a brace and made the
final score 14 to 8. The teams lined up
