"The Founder of Christian Scieuce" ia the title of an interesting and timely article in the November number of the New England Magaaine, by Henrietta II. Williams. The Iter. Mary lUrker Eddy, discov erer and founder of ChrUtian Silence, author of the denominational textbook. "Science and Health with key to the Script ores," and the acknowledged spiritual advier of a very large and growing body of intelligent Christian men and women, is a woman whone hiMory ia intennely interesting to thoughtful people of all shades ol opinion. In a little more than a quarter of a century this gifted woman has es tablished a church with thriving branches all over the world and con verted to her ideas of practical Chriati-J amty hundreds of thousands of people. This excellent article reveals the leader of the Christian Science movement in a way that is new to most readers, for we sew her in the friendly setting of ber New England home, auiorg the hilla of (New Hamptdiire where she was born and reared and where srie s'ill bves to dwell in the buy retirement of "Pleas ant View," in the suburbs of Concord. Mrs. Williams has evidently been faithful in gleaning the (acts in regard to tbe life of Mrs. EJ Ir, for she relates some incidents never before published, of the home life and training of the now famons woman, which show bow ber ex perience prepared her for the work she has accomplished. The article is illus trated with twenty-five half tone engrav ings, which add great iy toils value as hiMory. Some of tbe scenes of Mrs, Eddy's childhood are particularly 1 uter es; ing to students of Christian Science. During tlie era of church building begun by tbe Christian Scientists five or six years ago, they hare erevted many beautiful edifices in tiie leading cities of the coontry. A few of the more costly of these are represented in the ilius- "Shenandoah" In Portland. The production of Uronaon Howard's great drama ol the late Civil war, "Shenandoah" which Jacob l.ltt will present at the Manpiam tirand In Port land Christinas week, ia the same which Mr. l.itt umvl at the Broadway theatre, New York City, Irut May, which was said at that time to be the handsomest production that has ever been given on the stage of a New York theatre. The great feature of the Litt production is the battle Kens which comes at tbe end of the third set. It NsMmaas IN TIIK CJIUTir COt'ltT of IheHsts of Oregon, for the t'onnljr of Clackamas, 1'anlrl W.
