The nickel social given at George
llicinhothen'a Friday evening waa a
grand affair. The largest crowd waa in
attendance that has assembled for a like
flair for many a day (or nigbt). Your
correspondent is glad to say that all
enjoyed themselves, especially the
writer. Another will be held at II. A.
Allen's on December 15. Come one
and all and ei.j y a good time.
J. T. Mason ha rented the William's

An article appearing in the Coi.ner
Herald of the 9th inst., in which it de
scribes a tight ride of one Young and a
corptie, fhows the high moral of the man,
and aleothe paper. It was bad enough
to drive so w ith the remains, but it was
much worse for the paper to brag and
boast of it. Oli well, you could not ex
lct anythirg else of a paper that takes
the side of the political question it does.

We think it would be a good plan if
the young people of Poring would
organixe a debating society. This not
only would furnish a place lor entertain
ment but would also promote the
intellectual as well a the social side of
life.
Miss Power man introduced debating
in school and the children seemed to
take quite an interest in It.
Kev. Morvhead, of Portland, preached
at the M, E. church at Damascusu Sn

were the guest of Mr. and Mr. W. 11.

nothing in the pav?r from this part of
the countiy for quite a while, but this ia
no sign that we are not able to kick,
This precinct is quite small and quite
quiet, so there is not much news to write.
Boring's is a republican neighboihood
and also quite prosperous. Our farmers
raise more bushels of grain to the acre
than our populist neighbors. Our
populibt neighbors do not know how to
account for this but we can easily ex
plain it. We say it in because we do not
sit around the corner grocery or ujon a
fence and berate the administration or
coin silver as they do.
The farmers of Damascus held a meet
irg the 18th inst. to see about getting a
creamery put up theie. Cut Damascus
could not furnish enough cows to justify
Yeti-ch & Sons lo start one.
Potato digging in a thing of the past
here. There was a good yield.
Seme have not got their wheat sowed
yet, and from trie look it is likely to be
some time be ore they do.

sold her fine river farm to some HuHsiaus
lately from the Kant. This is only one
of several recent transfers.
J. E. Enuer, who has been the S. P.
station agent here at intervals for sev
eral years has been transferred to Mt.
Angel. There Is a general change of
agents throughout the whole length of
the line. '
The Artisans, of Iiarlow have changed
their place of meeting to Can by. The
change was a good one, twenty new
members having been received during
the three meetings that have been held
here.
Canby church people are progressive.
Lant hpring the Methodists thoroughly
renovated their building and put in a
hot air furnace. Now the ChriHtian are
improving. They have papered the
walls, painted inside ard out, laid car
pet and made sundry other improve
ments. Otrier feature being new or im
proved upon. They expect to have a
new minister. The one in charge now
is over zealous and his zeal lead him in
his talks into the realms of the sensa
tional which is not what Canby craves.
We think there i a good field here for
a music teacher as three new pianos
have been recently purchased and there
are several older ones in town.

now than it was early in the fall. The

past week was the marriage of Gilbert
Ward to Mrs. Elizabeth Lee. They were
married last Saturday evening in the
I 0 0 F hall, Kev A J Montgomery
officiating. At 9:30 the Odd Fellows
snd Kebekahs were lined up on one side
of the hall and the Artisan upon theo
poeite side and the high contracting
parties attended by Mr. and Mr James
McFarland entered (he hall to the strains
ol a beaut iiful wedding march. They
took their placet at the end of the hall
juxt in front of the prodding officers
stand. Kev. Montgomery then by the
beautiful ceremony of hi church pro
nounced them husband and wife. After
congratulation a splendid repast was
served in the rooms under the hull after
which dancing was indulged in until
midnight. The presents were numerous
and useful.
Mrs John Gulxnard fell and fractured
her arm last Saturday the fracture was
reduced by a Portland physician,
Ada Fox leaves tomorrow for an ex
tended visit to Iloise Cily, Idaho,
Mrs Helen Montour, Mian I,il!U) Myrtle
Montour and Wm Cummings all of Ore
gon City attended the wedding Saturday
night.

till full when grain is to be hauled and

Someone will gut drowned then the
county may have a law suit to pay.
Why can it not be repaired in tint sum
mer not in the fall and winter as it has
been the two last time it was renairml.
It was known to be unsafe, all summer
so why leave the repairing till the
farmers want to use it the most of all the
year, I what all Garfield and Currlns
ville would like to know.
