During the winter of 1807 Mr. Janid
Hoed, one of the leading citizens and

struck his leg airsinst a cake of ice in
such a manner as to bruise it severely.
It became very much swollen and pained
htm so badly that he could not walk
w ithout Ihe aid of crutches. He was
treated by physicians, also used several
kinds oi linimont and two and a half
gallons of whisky in bathing it.but noth
ing gave any relief until be began using
