AIWIT THAT Mill ALEX TB11. Corn boratlre Testimony tlh Story. About Hull's Wo had to come home and go to work tot. hi up after our vacation. Outinga are nearly alwaya hard woek, I think, yet the change seema to ret one and enable him to get a new hold on thine. Tiny :re useful ciiietly to talk about afciwirda and make one appreciate homo. We slept with our clothea on to keen warm and sweetened our oillVe with honey because the sugar couldu't aland On v, n an miner weather. We did not get a atone for bread, but when we ar-kcl for a glasa of water received the frying pan full, aa it was alwaya handy, being our bailer. The reading matter was never dry and in fact our w hole lock in trade waa "watered" .They caught Ml trout the first day and kept up the record to that the grand total waa and a iialf. The two larg est v .-anured 1(1 and ll)lt respectively, with many jui-t a little smaller. They caught aeveral doublets, sometime two large ones at the same time, I caught thiec, but don't like to bathe and fish at the same time. We plan to rio even larger crawfish next year than those Mr. Wilson told about, having increased their rations by half a ham and a pail of butter while hun( np edgewise on a rock to rest and enjoy the scenery. Mr. Wright was the champion fisherman, always co:r.i:.g out a little ahead on the count, ap waiting 'till someone caught the Uigrt one and then going out ami cat.Ling one just a little larger, lie left a trolling line in the river, doubtless eieciing to pull in a whole clothea line full next year. It was at well that his camera was sailed so he could not get a 8;: .psl.ol at us while being carried pack a back from perilous situations for should have lieen obliged to retaliate by securing his iHe when left on a lone rork in mid stream. If recotid by a small margin on fish, Mr. Wilson learned how boating is done on t.'ie Nehalem and is now prepared to take orders ad pilot, steersman or pumps. He really did learn to handle an oar very effectively, and a good Nehalem boats m;in it a rare individual. The best one exuiit, I think, belongs to me. Fear ing he was in danger of being elected a champion ol anot her sort whose name rbyij.rs wi'.h lawyer, we rush to his vindication. Alter several days of rain, rendered endurable by the grand good humor of everybody and the jokelets of the maker of Caa poles, one perfect evening came to deceive us into the hope of good weather. Put there was a "difference in the morning" for we were awakened by a doleful oice outside chanting "Horrible' Horrible! Horrible!" to the accompaniment of the pattering rain. It was the voice of the water commissioner, who was supiKed to possess some degree of influence in regard to matters aquatic. We touched at Fraser's place which seemed very desolate with no one living within five miles one way and 'fifleen the other, for there used alwaya to be a houseful and a cordial welcome to all comers. lie was drowned in the river he understood so well and on whose waters he Lad achieved many brilliant feats of boatmanehip, notably that of rescuing two men cast from a broken boat on isolated rocks in a fearful rapid. He took a canoe four miles op stream- in itself requiring great skill and strength darted from rock to rock, and took them off, when others considered it Impossible unless they trusted them selves, all cold and si iff, to tlie rushing waters. At last we reached tlie mecca of Ne hale m fisherman, the wild and pictur eeque little Salmonberry river, which adds its cold, sparkling blue waters to the darker stream . of the Nehalem. Here is the home of the big salmon trout. Here we have caught them from 12 to 19 inches in length, and strings of them too. Though wet, cold and tired when we readied it late one afternoon, those men were out at the first opportunity on rocks or standing in the water fishing in the deep blue pool at the mouth, and believing about the big trout as hard as they could to make up lor lost time, and Ob! it is exciting to just see those large trout hooked, how they flounce clear out of water, and play out the line and how white and clean and altogether eatable they look. After boating many miles through a rugged and uninhabited yet picturesque region over a tortuous reeky stream and often in the rain, we were glad to see the first house below, as an evidence ot that civilization we had run away from, bnt which brightened as it look its flight. When squeezing past a rock on a rapids little son asked if I heard the boat "apeak its word" and I inwardly fancied it must have been a very bad word. When we reached the coast we did not earo for surf bathing, and decided to go to tlio mountains next year some real dry mountain. Next came an ocean ride of thirteen hours, my first and I trust, my last. A small steamer full of pafeMjngeis who "gathered at the rail ing", not the river, "one by one". The difficulty seems to be to take one's stomach along when dropping down on the other side of a swell. It stays up there. Son asked "What are we sick of?" wondering, I fancy, if it was 1 i ....u - .,,. r l a ' measles or whooping cough or any of the ailments be knew about. I can now appreciate the story of a young lady on j board ship who, although tick heraelf, waa sitting itha sick man' head in her Up. A gentleman kindly asked it her husband aa very sick and she faintly replied, ith n ut'cr lack of lntcicst and without won opening lur e ym, "he it not my husband, I never saw liim More". Then home again and how good it looked an J Oregon City ami her people. Ifcltaaihe liule boy must who ran away front home for god, stayed a mhole Jay, returning much subdued Imt joyous, at nightfall. Everything looked ao good to Mm after leing so nearly lot forever. II looked around and re marked to lila imly silent mother. "Well, ma, I see you've got the atne olJ cat yet". P. I S. Married. The conti acting parties are both well and favorably known. Misa Jones is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mr. Samuel W. Jones, large land owner, and widely known citiirns. The cere mony waa witnessed only by relatives and immediate frienda. Fllis Kingo was best man and Mis Jennie Jones was maid of honor. The couple received many valuable presents. Mr. and Mr. Moore left on Monday for Milwa ikie, Clackamas county, their future home, where Mr. Moore ia principal of the public school. They w ill board for a time until a home can b prepared lor bouckeeiing -Gervais Star. The Matrimonial .Maelstrom. Rusines in the county clerk' office the past week has teen quite brisk among the disappointed anglers in the matrimonial sea. Many a tale of woe is represented among the papers on tile there and the whole gamut of human emotions from the ridiculous to the disgusting. Among the cases filed the past week are found : B. C. Heath vs Mary P. Heath. They were married in Sioux City, la., in lHi'si, and everything waa serene until in 18'Jl when Mary without any just cause or provocation abandoned and deserted her husband and he now wants satisfaction by being divorced from her. In 1873 away back in Kansas, Oliver Wiley married his wife, Jennie Wiley. Oliver claims to have been at all times a good husband, sober, industrious, and witii a full appreciation of the courtesies and civilities of good breeding and civi- j lizition. Jennie on the contrary, he i alleges, was cruel and inhuman, extra-1 vagant in hr habits and when he re monstrated and refused to allow her to act as treasurer of the combination ordered him out of the house. In addi lion to her defects, Jennie would fre quently remain away from home all night. For all these things Oliver thinks he would be better off paddling his own canoe and asks for a release. Francis B. Jones, from his storr, has had a bad time with his wife. Maria L. They were married in 18.44, and Maria baa made life miserable for him by call ing him various names "hot authorized in the vocabulary of polite society, accusing him of adultery on numerous occasions and refusing to act toward him in a manner becoming ber position as his wife. His patience Is now exhausted and he wants to be made free. II. E. Smith became the wife of W. J. Smith in 1870, and lived happily until 1894 when the defendant became an habitual drunkard and failed in his sup port of plaintiff until in 1897 hi conduct became unbearable and she was forced to leave him, on account of his cruelty, he on one occasion having struck her w ith a board. She wants a decree. John E. Neilaoti took as his wife, Anna Neilson, at Portland In 18!H. Since marriage she has kept company I with other men at unreasonable time against his protest. In addition she frequented saloons and got intoxicated and exhibited herself in that condition. He wants an absolute divorce from her forever. Voluuic ErnplinnH.
