He has been in Eastern Oregon for the past eighteen months. He started on his re turn trip last Monday making the state ment that bunch grass is hard to beat. B. C. Talmer and A. R. Gorbett, of Ostrander are ' visiting friends and rela tives here. B. AY. Bonney left for Ostrander on . the 7th J. II. Sexton, of Portland, is spending a few days in the hills hunting. Harmony. Harmony, Oct. 10. The mile of road between Mr. Kanne's place and the county line has been graded and is being graveled. This road is in Mr. Council's district and thoroughness which charac terizes his work is noticeable. Some fall grain has been sown. The recent rains interfered with this kind of work. Rev. K. D. Streyfeler began a revival meeting here last week which still con tioues. He is assisted by Bev. Strupp, of West Portland. COl'XTY COURT. Proceedings of the Itogulur October Sewloa, Thoi. F. Thomas at Beaver Creek. The evening was spent in games and singing until late. Oct 11. Some plowing has been done and but very little wheat sown. Some are digging potatoes and all seem to hare a slim crop plenty of potatoes but of - small size. Messrs. J. C. and Green McMurry have returned from Nebraska, where they bave been the last six weeks. They at tended the exposition at Omaha and were well pleased with the Oregon ex exhibit Mr. Oren Grtffen will work for Wm. a Derby, of Gresbam, this fall and winter Mr. Geo. Derry and w ife are at Albert ,Derrys. They own 80 acres of land here together and George intends to make bis borne here soon. Miss Delsia Newell went to Portland to - work last week for a large well-to-do family. Miss Pearl Lovelace is out from Fort' land visiting her mother and numerous friends. Mr. Elmer Tone went to Portland Saturday and returned Sunday. Cretceat. Cbesckmt, October 9. School has started with Miss H. Holden,of Oiegon City, as teacher, and a large new bell to call forth its papils to their studies. The family of M. Gard bave moved to Highland. Messrs. Reynolds and Yacht bave each made a trip to the coast and returned with a good supply of fish. The Jones party have lately returned from a bunting trip, having killed five deer. Mr. Cbas. Liversy's new bouse Is a decided improvement in the neighbor hood, and gives promise of being a com fortable home for its future occupants. Mrs. G. W. Waldron has lately re turned from the borne of ber father on . Mollala, who has been seriously ill, but is now improving. Mrs. M. Strowbiidge and her brolher, E. Rue, have returned from their East ern Oregon trip, which financially proved very successful. Last Thursday morning Mr. C. Liveray ' found one of his horses down in the stable and it soon died from supposed internal injuries. Mesdames Freeman and Gentner, of Oregon City, spnt Sunday afternoon -visiting Mrs. F. Yacht. G. W. Waldron has lately received ' letters from his son who is at Manila, stating that he is well and living very well as a soldier, The Payser brick yard has another large kiln of brick now in process of burning. In the matter of bridges and culverts in road district No 2, it is ordered that the clerk notify Supervisor Cramer to put in a culvert at Clackamas station near rani I road, and also see to repairing the Scott bridge, near Gage's. In the matter of sheriff's report and collection of 1897 taxes: Now comes Sheriff J J Cooke and presents his re port to the court of taxes collected as follows to wit: To amount of taxes uncollected on tax roll of 1897 received from my predeces sor, G W Grace, as shown by his state ment to the county court $59,485.73.
