CLACKAMAS COUNTY THE ENTERPRISE COKRESPOXD E.1TS SWEEP THE FIELD. link Notes. Mink, Oct. 12.-E. W. Hornsclmh, who has been spending the last few weeks ' recreating tn Astoria, has returned with bout 3.10 pounds of salmon, and last Sun day he treated some of his neighbors to a genuine salmon dinner. Martin Massenger begins school this morning at Union Mills. We wish hi in access. Several ot our young people attended the 1snce at August Bluhm's last Friday even, fnjr, and report having a good time, Mrs. Adeline Dierck ot Portland is visit ing her sister, Mrs. Bertha Ginther, for a few days. Fred Hettman and Henry Stenier went to New Era last Sunday. Wonder what's the attraction now, boys? Oscar Ointher, who has been in Portland short time is home sgain. Eddie Schmidt, our coming musician, has inircbased an organ for his own personal benefit and to further develop his musical ability. A dance was the program of the day at the home of Mr. Herman's, Sunday. Now, Mr. Editor, Ienjoy a good social dance onoe in a while and in its proper time. But it aeems to me when people become so neglectful of the Sabbath day and begin to how such a thankless and disrespectful deposition for their Creator, they deserve the contempt of the better class of citixens. There was a pie social given in the old mm store last night under the auspices of the 1 . P. i. C. E. of the German Congrega tional church. There was large crowd present and the pies sold well, ranging from 30 cents to $1.20. All had a good lime in their way, but oh, what a way lor some! I'lenty of lienor was there, and the way ome were allowed to conduct themseives is a disgrace to the Y. P. 8. C. E., or rather those in charge of the program. It is con niilered a sin by church going people to go to a nice social dance, but when you can go to a party or sociable given under its aus pices, and give expression to the baser feelings and nature that lurks in the bosom of man, in the presence of those who are better disposed, is all right Is it any wonder (bat so many so-called worldly peo ple refuse to accept church doctrine, when they compare their own way with those on the other side? w e notice m your paper last week the report of a man having been fined 125 for brutally treating bis horses. Now I believe mat man received a part of the justice due bim. But what would be the degree of jus tice administered to a man who will beat his little eight year old boy with a horse whip until the whip is broken into three pieces, and, not being satisfied with that. Kill go and hunt up a large leather strap and beat him tor about ten minutes more besides punching bim once in awhile with bis fist? Such an incident happened last ueek near here, and we believe if any more sucn uamgs transpire an effort should be made to exert justice in behalf of those con cerned. The instrument or torture is now in possession of one of our neighbors as a Curiosity. COl'NTY COl'RT.
