Old people who requiie medicine to regulate the bowels and kidneys will find the true remedy in Electric Bitters. This medicine does stimulate and con tains no whiskey nor other intoxicant, but acts as a tonic and alterative. It acts mildly on the stomach and bowels, adding strength and giving tone to the organs, thereby aiding Nature in the performance of the functions. Electric Bitters is an excellent appetizer and aids digestion. Old people find it just what they need. Trice fifty cents per bottle at Charman's & Co., druggist, Charuian Bros, block. Subsribe for the Entkepbise, the lead ing paper of the city. A KEH'KSED KIOMMKEK. Not Impressed With the Ontlook for the Winter. Milton Misamore, of Albina, whose) picture adorna the first page of Wed nesday's Oregonian, has just returned from the Yukon country and relates an experience that will not tend to increase the rush there thia winter. He Is em phatic in nil denouncement of the North American Trading & Transportation Company, and of the Alaska Commercial Company, the two corporations that at present control the trade of the Yukon. He told with greater detail what has been lately touched upon in the press reports, indicating that the responsibility for whatever suffering and death by starvation there may be on the Yukon resta with these people, whose greed in duced them to transport whisky rather than food. Mr. Misamore says the outlook for food for winter ia very gloomy because the transportation companies that con trol the Yukon, knowing the lack of provisions in there this season, have deliberately encouraged traffic, telling people they could get all the provisions they wanted at Circlo City ; where the stores wera empty and the doors closed. Besides this of the tons of provisions sent in thia summer, only 10 or 15 per cent was grub, the rest being saloon sup plies. Speaking of the climate, be said: "The climate is not especially trying, if one takea care of one's self, except in such places as Dawson City, which is built right on the clear ice of a frozen swamp. There Is no drainage in such places, and the refuse of the camps stays right in the moss and mud of the surface. Consequently there is much typhoid. I know no better remedy tor it, or rather preventative, than ty swal low a good dose of quinine and whisky upon the first symptons of its presence in one's self.'' "A man to have even a reasonably complete outfit," said Mr. Misamore, must not figure on less than 100 pounds of eatables for each month of his con templated stay. Now, yon would say that 1200 pounds of provisions would be a year's supply ; yet it would not be enough if you expected to stay a year, because if you were to stay so long, yon could not get away for a number oUf months longer. Thus, if you leave here) next spring and remain In the Alaskan interior until the following winter, yon could not get away from there until the following spring, by which time your supply of provisions would be exhausted and you wonld have nothing to get oat with unless you buy more there. So I2Q1 pounds is less than you need, if yori ex pect to stay over winter, and more than you need if you expect to return the same season. Besides this weight of food alone, you must figure upon several hundred pounds of tools and other sup plies, and in this connection I want to speak of weapons. This little pocket knife is all the weapon I have carried or bad any use for. I have been reading an interview with a youth who lately came out of the Yukon country, aud he U quoted as saying a man Can bIiooI all thij game he wants to there. Now, I have traveled oyer that region about as much as a man could do In the lime I hud, and the only game I saw in the Yukon coun try was a solitary porcupine. You can't take time to hunt game if you go to hunt gold, and you would better take an extra pick or shovel than a shooting iron." Mr. Misamore is well-known in Oregon City, wtiere he formerly resided and worked in the woolen mills. He married one of the Singer girls and lived on the hill for a number of years.
