Sivith who hat one of the Burst prune orchards in this county expects to have over car-load of prunes. At the special school meeting of last Wednesday, in district 81, 1. P. Burns was elected clerk, J. D. Wilkison having left the district. Tbe pie social and dance at this place last i Saturday l.ighl was one of the pleasantest (lain of the season. The hall waa nicely decorated with flowers and evergreens, and very Interesting program was rendered. Among the many recitations of note was election by J. H. Burns, Prof. W. 8mith, Prof. Dosier and B. Smith. Union Hail orchestra gave the music. The pies which m ere of all shapes, sises and varieties all old above par, to the number of 28. After lunch, dancing was in order and was de lightfully enjoyed by all until a late hour, 35 numbers having been sold, when all re turned home feeling very happy. Those who visited the school last week were: J.H.Burns, Joe Paringer and R. Fanton, the directors; L. P. Burns, clerk; U isa Stone of Wheelers Mill, M iss Parker Miss Bowman, Mrs. H. Wheeler, Mrs. J. We bail with joy tbe beautiful sunshine and pleasant weather. The farmers in this vicinity have finished seeding and are making garden, Mrs. J. M. Shilts has been suffering with rheumatism for some lime, having been unable 10 walk without crutches part of the time. J. Randolph has been sick with la grippe the past two weeks. George Haydeu who went to Cosmopolis, parents of Mrs. Cubbins. Jessie Baxter of Oregon City spent day with D. H. Moslier. The kindness of some of our citizens toward their relatiyes who were county paupers seems to have been for the money tliey expected to get from the county. W. D. Berkey has been doing some grub bing and clearing this spring. The prospect for fruit and berries this year is the best for several seasons. Tbe dance at L. Shank's was a very pleas ant affair. Taylor of Oregon City was visiting friends and relatives in Highland last week. Stephen Hutchinson was recently called to the bed side of a nephew who is very low with the typhoid fever in Portland. L. Rath has a store in connection with the postoffice and is doing quite a business. Mrs. N. Farr and children of Oregon City are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Parish. Sunday School bas been reorganized after beihg discontinued during the winter. Cbas. Rutherford was elected superintend ent. School is progressing nicely under the management of Robert Guintlier. Mr. 0. is a live, energetic teacher and we are fortunate In securing his services. Orandpa Welch is again confined to bis room. We hope the fresh spring breezes will revive him. Mr. and Mrs. E.
