P A of the Ore gon conf-'ence convened in the Csnhy Evangelical church April 19 and 20, 1807. The evening Bcmn was opet.ed at 7:30 with devotional services led by Rev. R. D Streytr-ler. The president, Rev. G. A. Marxhanlt, nut doing prt'Hoiit, the vice-prenident took the chair. The different committees were then appointed and the delegates of the alliances irave their reports. After a short testimony meeting the convention adjourned, to meet at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. On Tuexday morning one-half hour was devoted to religious exercises, after which the program was taken up. On roll call 32 delegates representing 16 alliances answered to their names. The subject "A Plan for More Syste matic MiHsionary Work in our Alliances" was opened by Mr. J. A. Siewert, and further discusned by different lueintntrs of the convention. Rey. G. Koch read a paper on "The Present Status of Voting People's work in the Church" in which he gave many interesting facts and incidents. Mr. Soli tier r read a paper entitled "The Model Monthly Meeting" in German and it was pronounced a treat by those who were able to understand it. The afternoon session was opened by devotional services conducteJ by Rev. R. D. Streyffeler. Bn excellent essay was read by Miss Lena Royal, of Salem, entitled "To What extent can Our Young People Engage in Popular Amusement?" in which she emphasized the advisability and uxefulness of innocent amusements, but scathingly denounced dancing, theater-going, card-playing etc. as being detrimental and destructive in their in fluence. A paper was then read by Rev. A. Meyers, entitled ''Our Past, Present and Future"in which he spoke of the prosperity ot the alliance, our number being 30,470 and the necessity of vital godliness. The ensay was pregnant with spiritual treasures. A paper on " Y. P. A. Camp-meetings, Should we Have Them?" bv F. C.I stre) Uoler ol 1 ortunj was listened to with great interest. An essay entitled, "Best Method of Maintaining In'erest in Y. P, A. in Rural DixtricU" road by Mixs Fruinag of Tiganlsville was tl-n very interexting. Miss Nettie Crosby of Monmouth then read a paper entitled "How to Conduct a Junior Y. P. A." which contained many excellent thoughts anil ideas. The following officers were elected : President, Rev. Maurer; vice-preuidunt, Rev. L. Anderson; secretary, Mins Nettie Crosby; cor. secretary. Mr. Adolph Bittner; treasurer, Miss Rachel Graham. In the evening Bishop S. C. Breyfogel gave a lecture on "Glimpses of Europe Through American Eyes." The lecture was greatly appreciated by the audience, giving them as it did a very clear in eight into the social and religious con ditions prevailing in the European coun tries. Dangers of Hie lirlp.
