Shlrely's Oporn Honse, Monday, April 5 The Columbia opera company whose artistic performances have been the source of much genuine pleasure wher ever seen, appear at Shively'a opera house Monday, April 6th. The produc tions thev have made of the operas in their large repertorie have exceeded in splendor, completeness and fidelity to artistic requisitions the promises held out in advance. Worthy of Notice. The 8. B. Medicine company is the only one out of nine proprietary medi cine firms incorporated on this coast since 1887 that has not made an assign ment. TheBe hard times with new news paper advertising contracts lor two years, it speaks loudly of their merit. For sale by C. G. Huntley, druggist. Moml.iy evening- F Co. assembled at the S'lnory for quarterly Inspection. There were 41 men in line, the other memhers of the company being either sick or ahfcnt from the city. The In specting officer wero Major Sidney Collins, Msjor C .lone and Capt. T. T. Hir.ihi, of the hriutde slMffhom Port lmid. Aher a splendidly executed com pany drill, Major Collins took charge of the company and gave ths boys a very rild liiHM-i:iion, looking carefully a to the condition of their snnnd accou trement and permmal npierance. At the close of (he liisiection he compli mented Capt. Kelly very highly on the splendid sliaHt in w hich he found the company. The Inspection over Lieut. Pickens then put the company through an extended order drill, the various orders In the skirmish line woik being given by bugle call. The many and difficult evolutions which were carried out during the evening were executed In a manner lilghlv creditable to tbe officer ami men and showed that F Co. I hilly capable of sustaining its osl lion in the regiment and that in actual service It would be found fully prepared for the duties of Iho field. The company now numbers 55 men and in its personnel cannot be excelled bv any other company in the state. In a'teptlng recruit no lodue is more exacting than is F Co. in the selection of members. Its roster embraces the pick of the young men of Oregon City ami this hiuh standard la rigidly insisted on by both officer and men. No parent n ed fwar for the well heiug of their boy while in the ranka of F Co. and in fact a boy toiild not receive belter training in bth discipline and depigment than is hud in this organization. A well equip ped gymiiaiiiiii is maintained by the company for llie physical development of lis iiieni I it rt. F Co. is fortunate in having two ex reg'iUr uriiy men, J. W, Martin and Allteit SHMjiict-r in its ranks and the perfttet execution, by them of the vail ins drills is quite helpful to the other mem bers of the company. The Iroys have only been out of Uncle Hum's service about a month, tlwy bavin- served a full enlistment in the 0th infantry stati oned in California, ilefore enlisting in the regu1.tr army, tint boys belonged to F Cj. and on their return home the de-ire to bo Willi their old comrade! cand them to re-enlixt. There wers some 7 guests present to witness the imqieftinii snd drill and they were greatly pleased with the fine apH'arsnce our soldier boys presented r in. losrsa.
