Owing to the absence of tbe president tbe meeting was called to order by the vice-president, Willie Williams. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Nora Elliott. The debate was interesting as well as instructive. Tho meeting was iavored by an address by Judge Galloway. The literary program was very good, and also a credit to tba participants. Tbe literary society is to meet tbe Willamette Falls club in joint debate Wednesday evening. The liter ary society will be discontinued tbe last Friday in this month. Miss Nettie Ranch who is staying with her sister, Mrs. Church, of Portland spent Thursday with her parents in Gladstone. The monthly meeting of the teachers' association will be held at the Parkplace sohool house Saturday. Preparations are being made to entertain the teachers. It is expected that President Chapman of the State Uuiversity will address tba meeting. Tuesday evening the Parliamentary club met at tbe residence of Judge Galloway. The meeting was called to order by the president Jesse Faubion, after which tbe minutes were read by the secretary. Miss Zilpha Galloway. Then followed a half hour's drill in parliamentary practice which proved of more than usual interest by reason of tbe part taken in it by Capt. Apperson, Superintendent Starkweather and Judge Galloway. Tbe paper was then read by Clark Williams. His paper treated of tbe early history ol Clackamas county and was one of the most interesting and instructive yet read before the club. In tbe discussion of tbe paper, Capt. Apperson and Judge Galloway, each early pioneers, took occasion to compli ment it and added several reminiscences of special interest to the young people. Superintendent Starkweather, who is a native son of Clackamas county, spoke well of the accuracy of the data given in tbe paper and the pleasure it gave liim to listen to the reading. Prof. Gray commended tbe paper and offered the suggestion that the next meeting of the club be made of a historical character. The idea was well received and it was decided to have tbe program in this line, and that all the old pioneers of tbe vicinity be invited to be the guests of the club at their next meeting. The question for tbe next debate is Resolved, That the pioneers of the Pacific coast displayed greater courage and endured more hardships than did the pioneers of the Atlantic coast. The affirmative will be led by Miss Nora Elliott and the negative by Miss Dollie Cross. Tbe regular debate for the evening was then had on the question, Rosolved, That, the indications point to a longer life for the American nation than that bad by any other nation,, the leadeJ being Joseph Garrow and Willie Williams. The debate was well handled and showed that the speakers had given close study to their subject. The decision was given in favor of the negative by the judges, Capt. Apperson, Supt. Stark weather aud Judge Galloway. A vote ot thanks was then extended to Judge and Mrs. Galloway for their hospitality after which the club adjourned to meet next Tueday evening at the residence of If. E. Cross.
