An extra biding has been put in at the county gravel pit and a gravel train and crew of men has been put on and work was begun yesterday on the fill. There Is about half a mile of track to raine, the lowest part which will be rained over four feet. Of late years scarce a winter has gone by but whut the rail road companv tuts had Its train service In tel feared with by highwittor in the Willamette river causing them much inconvenience and financial loss. With this piece of low track done away with and the other improvements made In their roadbed which are to be Inangerated during this year the Southern Pacific will be able to give an uninterupted train service on their line passing through thla place al all seasons of the year re gardless of freshets or other hlndorances. School Mkktino. Notice of school election to be held in this city on Mon day, March 8th, to elect one director and a clerk has been officially issued. The polling places will be the hose house on J. Q. Adams street near Seventh and Recorder T. F. Ryan's office on Main street. The polls will he open from two to six o'clock p. m. The judges for the Admim Mreet voting place are J. T. Sent to thk Asylum William Sluillze, of Mscksburg, was examined before Judge Hays Tuesday, adjudged insane and taken to the asylum at I 'alein by Sheritr Grace and Chief Burns. He Is 60 years of ago and bus been in jail here since last November, waiting the action of the grand jury for the burglary of Sell's saloon at Liberal, being jointly charged with Tom Dinnell of that offence. The old man was not strong and the confinement seemed to have deranged his mind. Nkw Rooms Addkd. A pastor's study and a new Sunday school class room are being added to the Bapiist church in this city. The Btudy Is to be built in the hallway ittul the class room in the tower. The Baptist school is one of the largest Sunday schools In the state and the two extra rooms are made necessary on account of the number of classos to be accommodated. The work is in charge of J. Kellogg and Alfred Lewelling for its board of directors. They are considering the mutter of giving employment to their members by buying the etumpage on a tract of timber land just east of the city, and also of purchasing a rock crusher and selling tho crushed rock for road improvement at less than prevailing rates.
