Oregon City school district, No. 02, held a meeting at the olllce of Clerk Kyan. lust Friday evening. J. V. Xohle, chairman of the board of direc tors, presiding. The salaries of the teachers for the month of May was or dered paid. Clerk Kyan reported that he had paid off ths notes held against the district hy the Bank of Oregon City, with interest, amounting, to $1,5-8.80. The clurk was directed to advertise for 70 cords of wood to he delivered at the Barclay school, and (l-" cords at the East 1mm school. The following teachers for the next year were elected; Barclay school city superintendent and princi pal, S. W. Holmes; vice-principal, P, M. The young people of the Congregutional church gave a very interesting concert in the Y. M. C. A. Kymnasinm last Fri duy evening. Every number was hear tily applaned, and a few responded to en cores. Duownkii in tub Clackamas About two weeks ago Everett MeCafferty came from near La Camas, Washington, ac- companed by his family, consisting of young wife and two small children, and took up hia residence at Gladstone. He obtained employment fiom Mr. Cross, and was engaged in driving logs down the river. Tuesday afternoon lie was riding across the river about three miles anove the mill on one of Mr. Cross' horses, and getting into deep water the horses stumbled from some cause, throw ing Mr. MeCafTerty into the river, where he drowned. The horse reached the shore safely, and search was at once institued for Mr. McCafferty's body, but at the latest accounts the remain hud not been discovered. The deceased is said to have been a member of the La Camas A. O. U. W. lodge. Ilia loss in a Bud one to the young wife and two sinull children. Flowkhs in Gladstone Pahk. Fifty two varieties of flowers have been dis covered by the students of botany in Gladstone park. Nowhere in Clackamas county do wild flowers grow in greater profusion or exhibit more brilliancy of color than in this fav ored locality. The old Indian burying ground is at this time decorated with a great variety of wild flowers, that gives it a highly attractive appearance. Just at this particular season Gladstone park is at its best, and the numerous va rieties of wild flowers make it a most beautiful sKt.
