A rumor have been on tin) streets to the etlect that Mr. Hawley, manager of the Crown l'ajier Co. on the west side of the river, had hesitated in giving his consent to have the water turned on" from the canal for the purpose of ascer taining of the body of Ihe late Adam Strange waa lo be found therein, I desire to state; that in the afternoon of the day on w hich the body was found, I mentioned to Mr. Hawley, that it would be desirable to have Ihe water -turned oil' and he very politely informed me that thete was no necessity of giving him or his company any notice, but to have the water turned off w henever arrange ments were completed. Putin arrived in Oregon City Wednesday for a briet visit with old friends, when they will leave for Petuluma California, where Mrs. Dunn will spend the summer while Prut. Dunn have resided at Antelope, Wasco county for the past three years during which time Mr. Dunn has had charge of the school and on Friday last closed his third term of ton months in that place. Brownell delivered one his stirring political addresses to the people of Elliott Prsirie on Tuesday evening. There was a large crowd pres ent, who were enthusiastic in their ap plause. Hon. W. C. Duniway, private secre tary of Governor Lord, delivered an elo quent address on the political Issues be for the people of Eagle creek, yesterday afternoon. A large crowd were In at tendance, and the applause at times was deafening. Hon. C. D. Moores, of Salem, will ad dress the citizens of Needy on Saturday, May anth, at 7:30 p. m. Mr. Moores is a logical, practical seaker, and waa speaker of the late house of representa tives. Y. M. C. A. Sotes. The latge yard in the rear of the Y. M. C. A. building, is being fitted '.p for basket ball, jumping, pole vaulting and putting the shot, and a shed for bicycles is also being fitted up where members can store their wheels salely while bath ing or visiting the rooms. Mrs. James A. Dummctt, of Portland, will meet with the ladies in the Y. M. C. A, on Tuesday next at two o'clock p. in., to organize a ladies' auxiliary. Every woman in Oregon City, married or single, interested in any way in the Young Men's Christian Association, is kindly invited to be present. Overflow Meeting. On account of the evongelistic meet ings, and the fact that no one church can bold the people who desire to at tend the Memorial services, there will be the usual service in the Baptist church on Sunday morning as well as evening. Miss Mabelle Wiggins, president of the society, conducted the program, and a chorus of 25 young people did some j excellent singing. Paiiers by Mrs. George C. Brownell and Mrs. Forest An drews, were among the features of the services. Dr. Cowan also made a short talk. The chorus was under the direc tion of Mrs. F. F. White. There will be no preaching service at the Congre gational church next Sunday morning on account of the union memorial ser vice at Presbyterian chuich. The Oregon Brick Manufacturing and Construction Company has riled articles of incorporation in the county clerk's olliee, with Theodore Kraeft, A. C. Kraeft and Eli Crisswell as incorpora tors. This firm opened a brick yard on the Abernethv last year, and have en larged their plant and made other im provements . They are now getting out wood for their kilns, and will soon be ready to turn out a large quantities of the best brick. These gentlemen are practical builders as well as brick ma kers, and will handle contracts in that line.
