W . ltlack, an rxH!rienced asaociation player, has been coaching the Oregon City teum for the past three weeks, get ting them in practice for a game with an Astoria team, which will take place at the grounils in that city on Decoration Day, May U tth. The object i'l arrang ing a game with the llrilish apprentice sailor lioys, was to yivs the Oregon City team a gisid practice game. Following is the la-rsottell and positions of the Or eg jii City team a they played at Glad stone patk last Saturday: Arthur Scott, .il-keeper ; Charles Itovlan. right back; William lUird, left back; Dwight Cain, left half-back ; William (iibson, rig! t half hack ; Claude lloll'iuaii, center hall back ; Arthur tjuinn, William Cowers, Cat! Caulield, Fretl (ientner and Cordon Dubois, for wards. Charles Hoy tun is captain of Hie team. The sailor team was made up from ap prentice Itoys on board of lour liritish Clyde built ship, now lying at Cortland. Ten of the buys are Scottish lads w ith the addition of one l'nglishmiin. These hoys played football at school ever since they were large enough to walk, and have all the points of the game down to a scientific likely. Following is the per sonell of ihe team and their place of res ilence: James Donald, captain, Dun dee; James Miller, Ahroth; George McKinley, Glassgow; Mack FMwards, Gruntfiu; James McMillan, Ceterheod ; A. ft. Clark, Ardin; Andy Ross, Star raer; Matthew Orr, Ardrossan; Harry Spencer, Dundee; Thomas Craig, Glass gow ; Robert Menzics, Leith. Ilairtl and iuiiin i.f the Oregon City team made some good plays, and ii is a fact worthy uf note that (Joint) lia I only had three weeks practice. He gives promise of becoming a great football player. Donald, captain of the sailor team, ami I'M wards, back, deserve spee i d mention fur their skillful plays. The coiicher, Mr. lilack, is highly pleased with the way the Oregon City boys actpiit ed themselves, lie expected that the game would result in 10 goals to nothing in favor of the ltritons, but after an hour and a half of hard playing the Sailors only made one goal to the Oregon City's rothing. George Came ron, an attorney with Fmir.ons A F'.m mons, of Cortland, was referee, and per formed the duties of umpire, time keeper, etc., in a satisfactory way. An interested crowd watched the proceed ings of the game, and were delighted with the new plays. in the evening a banquet was served at the Cortland restaurant to the two teams by several citizens w ho are inter ested in the national and international game of football. This proved a most interesting occasion. Mayor Straight presided at the head of tho table, and ho ami Dr. Carll both ninth' interesting ami appropriate addresses. It was some thing new to the sailor boys to see a mayor presiding at a football banipiet, anil all expressed themselves as highly pleased with the way in which they were entertained. The members of the Ore gon City team desire to oxpross their appreciation of liberal way in which the citizens pAyided for the en tertainment of their visitors.
