Henry Koehler well known In thin
county and tor a number of years in
btiaineaa in your city, but for the paat
three yean proprietor of the Koehler
Houne in thin place, died at hi home
here Hunday evening at about 6:.'t0
o'clock. Mr. Koehler was born in New
York in 1824, and when hut a young
man migrated to Miaaouri with a colony
in which he figured very prominently,
after a dozen year of hard work in
building up a manufacturing town, he
diaiioaed of bi intereaU and came to tbe
I'aciflc coiHt and made hi residence in
Oregon City norne ten years ago. He
waa seventy-two years old at the time
of hi death, and had a large circle 0
Irienda which was evinced by the num
ber who attended bis funeral, and the
prolusion of flowers sent. Mr. O. W.
Quint, our townsman, officiated at the
grave with very appropriate remarks.
Mr. Koehler leave. wife to mourn his
loss.
A Buy Day Last Saturday was tbe
scene of a great many people from the
country, some coming in (or the purpose
of attending tbe creamery meeting,
others for tbe meeting of the Barlow
grange, while a goodly number came to
attend the democratic meeting for or
ganization. The creamery meeting was
I called for the purpose of way and
means by w hich they could collect from
delinquents. The Grangers met in
their lodge rooms and conferred degree
on three new members besides other
routine busineas: while the democrats
assembled in tbe creamery hall and per
fected the organization of a democratic
club with the following officers: E. M.
Itrackett, president, and Alex Baty,
secretary. The roll was signed by about
nine and arrangements will now soon be
made to have speakers brought here to
enthuse and add to the list of the charter
members.

Wednesday's train brought three Michi
gan capitalmt lumbermen, who, soon
after arriving, secured conveyances to
be driven up the Molalla above Dickey's
Prairie. Their mission there is for the
purpose of making a thorough investiga
tion as to the extent of the timber belt
ana tbe feasibility of the successful run
ning of logs down the Molalla river to a
point on the railroad. Tbe gentlemen
were not at all communicative other
than answering a few questions that
were proounded by your correspondent.
They will return in tbe course of about
ten days
Svki'risk Party. A very pleasant
surprise party was tendered Miss Elgiva
Mullan, at the residence of Dr. and Mrs.
E. B. Ramsby last Wednesday evening
by the older boys and girls of her school.
The evening was most enjuyably spent
in music, games and conversation, after
which a most tempting lunch was
served. Tbe party was in honor of
Mips Mullan's birthday which occurred
February 14th, and the young people
heartily wished their teacher manv
more happy birthdays and dispersed for
their respective homes.
Still Another Sprprisk. The many
friends of Mrs. R. E. Irwin completely
surprised her Monday evening by ar
riving en masse at her home on Fifth
avenue. The evening was pleasantly
passed in dancing and card playing
while others assembled in the billiard
hall above and amused themselves by
playing pool and billiards. At a late
hour refreshments were served, and the
company left for their homes, wishing
Mrs. Irwin a speedy return to Barlow.
Tub Bio Drift Will Go The big
drift which has accumulated for years
near the mouth of the Pudding river and
which has been the cause of overflow of
good valuable land in high water, will
soon be cleaned out as Messrs. Peterson,
Parmenter and Mulloy are now at work
blasting out and opening up a new
channel which when finished will be of
great benefit to that part of the country.

livered before a workingman's club, one
on "Armatures," by W. H. Freedman,
and one bv Prof. Francis B. Crocker on
"Methods of Connecting Dynamos and
Motors," form the last of the formal

of the day: Roentgen rays, sensation
alism and overproduction of electrical
engineers are the subjects fur that de-

to attend a grand rally of the circle of
Portland at Dr. Locke's church on Wed

A meeting is called! for next Sunday
at tbe Methodist church at 4:30 p. m.
to. complete the arrangements for the
organization of a Y. M. C. A. in this
city. Some of our citizen have re
sponded generously to the appeal for its
support and with a couple of hundred
members, there is no reason why this
institution should not be (attained and
meet a long felt want in this) city. With
a reading room, a room for games and
social intercourse, a general assembly
room, gynasium and bath, and later,
its evening classes and lectures to
supplement meager educational oppor
tunities, the young men may congratu
late themselves upon its beginning and
confidently rally to its support. All
who have subscribed, and all wbo are
interested in the Y. M. C. A. are re
quested to be present.
