was ot nerved in a general way in all the
chinches as the lime Hearing the ap
proach of the anniversary of the day,
when (he angels sang, "Glory to tiod
the Highest, I'eace and Good Will Tow
ard Man." No sja'cial services were
belt! at the Presbyterian and Ihiptixt
churches, but tho sermons were perme
ated with grand thoughts suggestive of
Christ's birth and mission on earth.
An elaborate musical program for the
evening service at the M. E. church
was printed in last week's Kntkhi'iiisk,
but on account of Miss Florence Morey's
illness the program was seriously inter
fered with However, the service was

pulpit of the Congregational church in
the morning, and deliverer! one of his

rant issued on complaint of Jack
Humphrey, charging him with adultery

and was arraigned Monday morning at
ten o'clock. George 0. Ilrownell ap
peared for the defense, and L. L. Por
ter, deputy prosecuting attorney, eon

the reason that there was not evidence
enough to convict. Mrs. Iliill'inan is the

Very interesting exercises wero held
at the Canemah school last Friday sfh r
lDoii. The pupils acipiitted themselves
ve'y creditably in their recitations
songs and dialogues. The feature of the
occasion was the address of Attorney
J. E. Hedges, the clerk of the Canemah
distrsct. His address was very instruct
ive und interesting, and dealt chiefly
with facts concerning school days at
Yule colleg-J. The Canemah schoil is
under the management of I'rof. E. C.
Haekrttt, principil, and Mise Sade Chose,
teacher of the primary department, who
are doing excellent work. They held
the same positions last year, and the
school is prospering under their man
agement. The Y. M. 0. A. fair at the old Meth
odist church (lsBt Monday night, was a
decided success considering the f ict
that thero welre numerous a'traetions in
the city on iliat night. The affair was
under the management of Mrs. B. S.
Uellomy, Mrs. Nathan Tinkle and Mrs.
11 Soiler, ami the sale of fancy articles
and the refreshments serve I, netted
about $10. This makes a substantial
beginning toward the establishment of a
gymnasium .
William Murray, a cook by profession,
and more recently a tourist bv occupa
tion, was arraigned before Justice Dixon
last Saturday on a charge of stealing a
valise and its contents from the Port
land Hotel, tho property of Leroy I-e I
gerwo 1 1 Two girls employed in the ho
tel testified Hut they saw Murray t ike
the valise; hence conviction w is an eisy
matter. He was sentenced to 00 days
confinement in the county jail.
