After lunch the members of both lodges, together with a Urge number of Iriends, returned to the lodge room ami spent an hour or more in speech making, recitations and songs. It was a time long to be remembered. The revival services in the M. K. church - closed Monday night. A good degree of success has attended these meetings. The wife or Kev. R. M. Jones, the Con gregational minister, is quite ill at her home in the new town. It is reported that she lias the scarlet fever. Mistletoe Lodge 'o. 20. Milwaukee, Dec 2.-The Christian En deavor Local Union, comprising the Sell wood, Willsburg and Milwaukee societies, held their monthly meeting in the Evangel ical church Sunday evening. A very large and enthusiastic crowd attended, and the interesting program was listened to with marked attention. The next meeting will be held at Sellwood in the Pesbyterian church the first Sunday in January at 6:30 P.M. A number of our citizens have availed themselves of the opportunity offered by the diflerent transportation companies in greatly reduced rates to California points. The following are among those who have taken a pleasure trip to the great metropo lis: Mrs. Mooney and daughter Ella, Geo. Wisainger, Mrs. M. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Wagner and family, Mr. Henry Km ger. Milwaukee's young people are being kept quite busy this winter, socially speaking. A literary and debating society was or gmnized two weeks ago. Its enrollment of membership it about 35. Meetings are held every Saturday evening in the town ball, where a good time is enjoyed by all. We also have two musical classes, one under the leadership of Prof. K. F. Mullan; the second was started last Friday evening by Pror. Wright, or Portland, with Mrs, J,G. Wilson of this place as assistant. Both classes are progressing nicely, with a very bright future before them. Any wishing to avail themselves of the opportunity to learn music in all Its forms can do so by joining either closs. Charges very moderate. Mrs. Bargeant, who so severely sprained her ankle two months ago, is now able to move about with the aid of crutches. Theo. Dahl, who baa been conducting a butcher shop in Milwaukee for the last two and sbalfyoars, sold out the entire busi ness to Eogar Norton, who will conduct the shop in the future. Mr. Schubel, of Elyville is visiting rela tives in this neighborhood. Fred and Will Steiner and Joe and Albert Studemati spent last week in the moun tains. They report having had a very pleaxant time, but did not like the trouble of carrying home game, so they left it there until next time. E. D. Homschuch, of Oregon City, is spending a few days with his parents. Ed Hettman went to Oregon City to work. Sunsivside, Dec. 4.-There has been quite a number of changes since last writing. The Reeds have moved back and are living in J. Deardorft'i house until spring. Peter Buck has sold his place to G. Me Murray. Mr. Buck and family have gone to California to make their home. John Welch and family have been mak ing a visit here, and while here traded his farm in Washington for Mr. White's place here. Mr. Welch will take possession at once. Mr. Sumner has also been selling some of his land. Mr. Feblman has moved to Mr. Bach mer's place. Miss Margaret Reed has been visiting the family of ber uncle, J. Reed. The Free Methodists bave started a re vival. They have a new preacher who is very confident of making a good many converts. The spiritualists hold meetings every Sunday. School is progressing very well, but we all think we ought to bave several more months of teaching each year. Children only com mence to learn in such a short term before it closes. On Thankgiving day all enjoyed a good dinner or a good dance. A masked ball at George Thompson's house was largely patronized, there being twenfy-five numbers sold, and many were present who did not dance. Mrs. Davern has sold her place and moved away, and no one cried about it either. The debate last night on the question, Resolved, That the invention of machinery is a benefit to the labor ing class, was decided for the negative. Prof. Griffith gave his popular lectures at the lower Logan schoolbouse this week. Some of our young people attended the party at Hatton's Friday night. The populists of Borings held t meeting In the school house Saturday, November 30, at 2:30 P. M. The speakers were the Honora ble Mr. Secore of Oregon City and William Dean of Sandy Ridge. Tbey did away with all of the railroads and all of the "gold bugs," and coined the money in the school house. All that a person has to do now Is to start toward (be school house and meet the big slver dollars coming down the road through the mud. We hope that Messrs.
