Melcher, of Stafford, died Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, September 3rd, aged O'J ytars. She was the mother of Mrs. Max Schulpius, of this city, and baa resided at Stafford since 1875. Her remains were buried in the Stafford cem etery Thursday. The name of Joseph Rice appears in the professional cards in the Enterprise of this week. Mr. Rice is a young man of ability and as an attorney is proving liimself to be an upright, painstaking counselor. His office is with Deputy District Attorney Porter where he can be found at all times. Mrs. Katherina Kelim, wife of Conrad Kebm, died in Portland last week, and the funeral services took place at De Lin's undertaking parlors, on Thursday. Mrs. Kebm was the mother of Mrs. Ka tie Kebm Smith, of this county, and was buried under the auspices of the First Secular church, Miss Nettie Olds offici ating. The deceased was CO years old. Last Thursday Chief of Police Burns was notified that an inmate of the asylum at Salem had escaped that day and that he would probably paaa Oregon City as the man was from Malheur county. That evening Police Otlicer Shaw gt on track of the fellow, he having come in on the evening freight train, and caught up with him just as be entered School Clerk Ryan's office hre a meeting of the school board was being held at the i time. The fellow made no rtsistence and in an incoherent manner gave his name as Daniel R. Dixon and that he bad left the asylum and was going to bis home in Malheur county He was in his shirt sleeves and had on light slippers and said he ha I had nothing to eat all day. After giving h m a warm supper Officer Shaw placed him in the city jail and notified the asylum authori ties who sent an attendent who took him back the next day. Mrs. Emma Orvile, a resident of Clackamas county, has brought suit through her attorney, Jud.'e Gordon K Hayes, against William Orvile for a dis solution of the marriage contract now ex isting between the two parties. In her complaint she alleges that they were married in Multnomah county in Octo ber, 18'.K, and anions other things states that her husband treated her with great cruelty, calling her yile names and heap ing indignities upon her person ; that the defendant deserted her for a period nf several days. The Viola postoffice will be re opened in another week or two. It has been or dered re-established, and Dr. J. W. Kar din Las been appointed postmaster. The citizens of that place have been suf fering a great inconvenience on account of the temporary closing of this postof fice.
