U. gathering. A sample box of Alexander peaches was received at this oflice Monday with the compliments of Mrs. Mary S Howard, of Mulino. They were large and fine flavored and were splendid sam ples of Clackamas county peaches. The proeram committee of the state agricultural board have appointed spec' ial committees for each day of the state fair. Monday, September 30th, is Na tive Rons and Daughters day, and the committee is Colonel Robert A. Miller, of Oregon City; ex-Mayor P. II. De Arcy, Salem; Miss Cecil O. Ramsy, of Harrishurg. The delivery team driven by C. F. Mason and belonging to E. E. Williams, made a lively ruuaway Monday morn ing. The team ran into a hack near the postoflke throwing a boy and girl who were in the hark out on the sidewalk with only a few slight bruises. The hack was completely do moralizod. The team "ami wagon next struck a telegraph pole, when the horses became detached from the wagon and were caught at the Imperial mills. Tracy, of liouglaa county, who is here on a short visit. Mrs. C. P. Latourette and children, Mrs. Alex Lewlhwaite and Miss Kate Ward returned from a two week's stay at Wilhoit Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Huntley and daughter are taking an outing at Long Beach. They are occupying the cottage of E. E. Chartnan. Mrs. John Gibson and infant baby came up Tuesday from Milwaukee, and will spend some time at the borne of Mrs. C. II. Da lie by near Gladstone park. H. K. Jones and II. C. Stevens, Jr., have arranged an excursion on their bicycles to t'orvallis Saturday evening, where they expect to spend Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Robinsou, of the Electric Hotel, are spending a few days at Hood river. During their absence David Henderson is officiating as land lord. T. P. Randall, who accompanied a Portland party for a couple oi weeks out ing at Xestucca, returned Monday and has resumed his position SB purser on the Ramona. Capt. J. T. Apperson, president of the board of regents of the State Agri cultural college, left Tuesdays for Cor valis, where the board will elect the faculty for the ensuing year. Prof, and .Mrs. J. W. Gray, Roy Case, and Miss Gertie Gibson left Monday for a month's outing at Netarts on the Til lamook coast. They will be joined the last of the week by Mr. and Mrs. F. F. White and Miss Jean White. L. B. Seeley, the well known steam boat man of Portland and manager of the Columbia River and Puget Sound Navigation Co., was in Oregon City last Sunday with a parly of friends viewing the beauties of the great Willamette falls Miss Anna McBride, of Santa Clara, Cal., who with her friend Miss Grace Watson, has been visiting in this city, left for St. Helens Thursday where she will remain for a few days and from there go to Salt Lake City to spend the remain dor of the summer. Rev. A. J. Joslyn, of Olympia, has been in Oregon City for several days thii week, visiting old-time friends and at tending to some business matters. Ke is the owner of the Oregon City Hospital building and expects in the future to make this city his home. Rev. J. W. Cowan and family left Thursday for a camping trip of two or three weeks. They go first to Viola, where they will spend a few days, after which they will go to the vicinity of Mt. Hood, camping on Salmon river and other streams near the mountain. Senator McBride is at present at his old home in St. Helens, The friends of the senator will be glad to know that he is in the best health enjoyed by him for years and that he will be able to take up his senatorial duties in Washington this winter with all the vigor he is noted for in doing his work. J, E. McConnell, accompanied by bis son Orln J. McConnell was in Oregon City Wednesday, Mr. McConnell is one of the largest hop growers in Clackamas county. He reports his yard looking fine and expects a good yield. He does not (eel discouraged at the future pros pects for the hop business, S. Bacon left last Saturday for ancouver, where she will attend a family reunion at the home of her parents Major and Mrs. Sparks. Mr. and Mrs. R. Hoyt, of Canby, passed through Oregon City Monday, on their way to Long Beach where they will enjoy the cool ocean breeies. Hon. F. L. Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hamilton were driving from the Red Front store to their home at Park Place Wednesday even ing, when their horses became fright ened and ran away. The vehicle was upset and Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton were dragged on the grouud for some little distance underneath the vehicle before the horses were stopped. Cowing, Jr., and Bert Green man left for a coast bicycle tour Thurs day afternoon. They first go to Tilla mook county, visit Netarts bay; then come out into Yamhill county; go to Corvallis and from there to Yaquina and if they find it impracticable to go down the coast to Coos county, will re turn to the Willamette valley. They will then go to Bandon by way of Rose- burg, and if their money does not give out will go to California before returning to Oregon City. Three more filings have been received at the Oregon Citv land oflice for home steads from the Siletz reservation. The applications were made through the county clerk of Lincoln county, and were accepted. There will probably be quite a number of applications for filings from this source, as those who go on the land have 1)0 days in which to file their ap plications in the land oflico.
