church lust Friday evening. The meet
ing was culled to order at 8:10. The
audience was small mid after the reading
of the minutes of the previous meeting
the club adjournd to arrange a joint (lis
cuhhion with tliu I'hilos. Saturday the
joint debate between the Twilight and
Franklin chilis will take place at the
Ml. I'li'HHHiit school lioiii-e. The former
club will furnish the mimic and literary
program. The latter club will only
take, purl in the dixcuHSion and will Iw
represented by the flower of her orators,
Ilowurd Hrownell. F. Melndel and Amos
Uard. All are invited to attend.

The Congregational church In this
city last Hunduy introduced the Individ
ual comii.mun cup, another step In
the lino of sanitation. Tho subject has
(or some time been agitated in the East
ern slates, but so (ur only two churches
in Oregon have Investigated the matter
seriously, the Gruce M. E. church, o(
Portland, and now the Oregon City
church. Medical journals, chemist and
physicians have said for some time that
disease germs might be conveyed from
one to another by the use ol the tingle
cup and many people are beginning to
advocate the individual cup aa the only
line of safely. The new method
seemed to all present as not only sani
tary and sensible, but also scriptural and
Impressive. The outfit was purchased
in Rochester, N. Y., of Dr. Cbaa. Forbes
the Inventor and presented to the church
by the Ladies' Aid Society .
Court Aftermath.
Circuit court bus adjourned until June
3rd, and J. A. Louisigmont boa not been
sentenced to the penitentiary for larceny,
but I out on $150 bail (lending decision
on a motion lo arrest judgment, on ac
count of a fanlty verdict.
A decision on the demurrer of the
East Side IUil way Company, waa post
poned until the June term.
The suit of Thoraa Cbarman against
U. M . II. Jones was dismissed.
In the suit of W. H. Part low against
A. T. (lowland, John A. Howland and
John J. Fraaer, to determine the proper
boundaries of certain lands where two
survey conflicted. The case was de
cided in fayor of the plaintiff. Lizzie
Close and David Close are not any closer
than they have been for some time, and
their divorce case atill hangs fire in the
supreme court. Ninety daya was
granted In which to complete a tran
script from the supreme court.
