On tho 10 Inst, at half past 12 o'clock, ' Ihe school marched to the reaidence of Mr. Itoguo to take a lust look at the , remains of our beloved puple and school : mate, John Poguo who died Iroin con-1 ciiKnion of the brain after a illness of three days. The school also adjourned the 20lh to attend the funeral. ' Committed hniclttf. 1 i Word was brought Wednesday to Coroner Hohnan that the body ol an old man had been found in the brush aliout ' a third of a mile southeast of Clackamas ! station, near a trail leading from the ! railroad track. It was discovered by 1 W.'H. and E. P. I'cdman, who were In j thut locality, cutting poles. , Mr. ilolmsn, accompanied by Dr. Sommer, Immediately left for that place , and on arriving there summoned a jury I and held an impiest over the renuibi. j A verdict was rendered thut the deceased i was unknown, and that he hod com- mi ted suicide by taking poison. j The corpse was that of a man appnr-: ently between 60 and CO years of age, tall ( and of rather slender build, face cleanly j shaved, except a chsely cropid side beard, reaching but little below the ears; dressed likea well-to-do ptofeBHional man. There wa not a scrap of pur or any thing else about him to give a clue to his name, except two laundry marks on his linen collar, "341" and "K 673." It is posaihlo that these may reveal the identity of the man. Ho wore a pair of knit w rist lets of red silk. In his purse was found a single nickel, and a phiit of tobacco was in his pocket, lty his side was a whisky flank ami twootht r bottles, all of them empty. Tho man had evidently carefully arranged n Ixnighs so as to make a com fortable seat, and tho body was found in a sitting posture, with the head bowed on tho breast, as if death hud come with out a struggle. The deceased was a stranger in the neighborhood Dr. Soinmer, who mude tho post-mortem examination, thinks the man had been dead about four days when the body was found. The stomach was removed, and brought to town, and ! an analysis of Its contents showed the presence of prnssic acid. ! The body was brought to this city and , will be held in Mr. Ilolmun'a undertak ing parlor for a couple of days in the j hopes that some ono may bo able to , identify it. If not it will lie buried In i the city cemetery. Chinese Tricks. i A Portland Chinese firm with the Bug gestive name of Sick Jim & Co., lately ! tried to get awup with John Iterretlt, the hog raiser and dealer of thin city on a deal they hud with him. It appears that they bought a drove of hog of Mr Herreth agreeing to pay $232 for them. Not paying Ihe curdi a note was prepared by Herrelh und sent down tl tho com pany to sign. Ho by mistake mado one foronlv f and noticing it mudo an other for fl'32 and laid the wrong ono aside to destroy. I In sent the note b his wile to tho Chinamen to sign ami she not being able to read Knglish, got hold of the (132 note which Sich Jim til Co. signed. The Chinaman, heiug no foos even if they cannot fight, observed the mistake and promptly took means to profit by it by tearing up tho weight bill, and wnen lieireth camo down with the coirect note they refused to sign it, swear ing thai $132 was all they had to pay. Mr. lierreth brought suit before Justice Bullock in Portland and by witnesses and duplicate weigh bills proved his claim and won his suit, he having U. W. Swope of this city to help him bring Ihe China men to their bargain. They had Judge Woodward to look after thoir interests. Sewing MMi Ami all AroMierlfi. White, Standard Ami Olliorn. F.
