The Teachers' Association met at the echool house in district So. 50, Saturday, September 2lUh. Owing to the inclem ency of the weather the attendance waa not 80 lare as usual and aa the place of meeting was twenty miles from Oregon City, the uK-rintendent and most of the teachers arrived at the dinner hour. The first thing presented to view waa a taole set in true picnic style, and bountifully laden it li good things. It scarcely necessary to say that the teachers were not content with viewing, but proceeded to partake with keen appetite. After dinner the meeting was called to order by the president. As the secretary was absent, Superintendent Gibson ap pointed Mi. -8 Jennie Kowan to till the vacancy. The minutes of the last meet ing were read and approved. Miss M. L. Hampton then favored the audience with a song. Miss Hampton has a clear, sweet voice and sings in an unaffected manner, very pleasing to most people. Miss Jennie Kowan then recited a pathetic selection entitled ''Ben the Waif." An address on kindergarten work had been assigned to Miss Xeltie OliU, on learning that she could not attend, pre- 1, ....... par eo an aoiircss ana sent 11 to Mi pi. Gibson to read. Miss Olds described the founding of the kindergarten or child garden bv Froebel. E. M. Ward then spoke on the sub ject of physiology. He regards the sub ject as a means to arrive at a belter understanding of the laws of Hygiene. He teaches by means of topical outline. Miss Matilda Reed opened the dis cussion of geography. She thinks the pupil should begin this study at about the age of seven years. He should be taught by oral lessons at first beginning :tb his immediate surroundings and tally extending to other scenes. Ward and Mc Arthur would begin - globe, taking the world as a Us Hampton would first teach -irroundings and then take a whole. Supt. Gibson ing the question and ans euerally practiced, etic had been assigned His address showed derstoood the subject, teachers know to be a dent Gibson the Kstkhtkihi is able to give a correct list of the schools now in session in Clackamas county with the names of the the teachers emploved.
