As the bene tits resulting will in a measure be to the advantage of all it should be the pleasure of every one who can ossibly do so to help in the enterprise for in this way only can it be well done so as to result in the most good to the greatest number. By all helping as they are able, the burden will not be laid at the door of few and a become too much lor them to carry. There ought to be 1000 men in Clackamas county who without injury to themsalves can contribute one dollar to aid the Oregon mid-winter fair ex hibit. This would make a contribution ol $1000 from this county which would bet showing creditable to the county and to her citizens. by mvself. This was done in the interests of the poor laboring man who is out of em-1 ployment so thai they could smell the sweet perfumes from the turkeys we had at my j house on the two occasion. You w ill also j remember that when the Chinese question ply to the county clerk for a list of the taxable property in siiiil district after which they muy cull a meeling; und vote the tux. On or before the first day of February was assuming serious proportions in this the county clerk must be notilieo in writ slate and the department at Washington j in(; of the rate percent of the tax levy wrote to me to repell the uprising, how I ; made. II. S. GllisoN, 1:6 !:!! The Estkhpkibe was invited to contribute to the cause of the bruiser the past week by party who desired to show oil the beau ties of the prize ring in this community. The prize fighter and bis exhibitions no matter whether they be of the Corbet stamp or akin to the bruiser wbo delights in a . knock down, are not calculated to elevate the morals of the community or to benefit those wbo witness their exhibitions. In the case of those who visit towns tbe size of Oregon City it is scarcely necessary to re mind our readers that nine times out of ten those who come are fake cancerns who find themselves broke and take this means of securing s little money. The numerous times that the people here have been bilked by such visitors should lead them to fight any of all who come, even if they are not actuated by higher and better motives. The American residents of the Sandwich islands are almost a unit in support of the provisional government. They have the aympathy and support af all tbe belter ele- wrote back to tbe Hon. Secretary to mind bis own business. For these reasons this communication, coming as it does from the populist candidate for senator, ought to have some weight with you. If yon tell congress to pass a free silver bill they will probably do so, as thecetn plete obedience of the lower house of con gresa to your wishes has been observed throughout the wide world. It would obey your behest, and in this the senate would give you support. II it refuses then as soon as I get elected I will see that they do so, though the heavens fall. My election in this state next winter depends upon my tellihg the poor laboring men that they are out of employment. I have promised them that in the event of my election, all their friends in the asylum and penetentiary will be pardoned out and work given lo every man, woman and child in Oregon, includ ing Indians not taxed. You are a father that is, the neighbors look upon you as such, and yon no doubt feel great ful to God, when you, upon retir ing to rest, looking upon your sleeping babes, the picture of health, consequent upon their having a sufficiency of food and clothing. I pray yon, however to enlarge the scope of your vision. Keep up your lick and have congress pass all the foolish laws yon can. Continue your present policy of making hard times worse, so that I can use it in the campaign next June and with what political taffy I have left In the execu tive larder, I think that I will be able to down both political parties and be elected U. 8. senator from Oregon.
