Oregon City Hose Company, No. 3 are now meeting in their room, which was neatly and conveniently furnished by the city council. This is the baby fire company of the city and seems to be prospering. While waiting for its room to be furnished the company were given the free use of Shively's hall for their meetings. At their last meeting a vote of thanks was unanimously tendered Mr. Shively for his generonity and prac tical encouragement. The Salem Journal says, "Fifty to sixty of the Salem militia companies will go to Camp Compson, named in honor of General Compson of the Oregon National Guard, at Gladstone Park, Oregon City." For heaven's sake bow many militia companies lias Salem and what has become of them since they started for camp last Saturday. To have 50 to 60 companies reduced to as many men in two hours' time shows losses greater than any of the civil war. What is the name of the sanguine battle resulting in such a heavy loss. ' Supervisor Cooke was authorized to purchase not to exceed 1500 pounds of powder for use on the Baker's Ferry and Deep Creek road. Also to procuie the necessary material and rebuild Deep creek bridge and repair Johnson creek bridge. The sum of $244 24 was ordered paid for work done on the Baker's Firry and beep creek road, and the additional sum of $125 was appropriated for the comple tion of said work, the work to be done under the direction of A. W. Cooke, suiervisor of district No. 1. Report approved of W. II. Smith, supervisor of road district No. 2, and fol lowing bills allowed. Paid out of road fund, labor $203.83, supervision $08; paid out of county fund, labor $040.38, mater ials $484.44. Said supervisor was ordered to make such repairs as may be necessary to the bridges in his district. Report approved of Geo. W. Sid' ney Smvth appointed surveyor and C. C. Babcock, A. W.Cooke and John Straight viewers to meet at place of beginning on Wednesday, August 23, at 10 a. in. It is ordered that the sheriff be author ized to correct clerical error in taxes of E. C. Maddock as appear.4 on page 111 line 11 on the tax roll for 18!2, by credit ing the said E. C. Maddock with the amount of $27.72 on his mortgage tax for 1H'J2.
