The young couple are both well and favorably known here and have the best wishes of a host of friends. The Southern Pacific railroad company has turned over to Sheriff Nolaml, of Lane county, and Sheriff Miller, of Douglas county, the reward of $3000 offered for the arrest and conviction of Richardson, the Yoncalla train wrecker. There will be a lecture at Wright's Springs at 10 :30 on Sunday, August 27th by Katie Kehm Smith, subject, " Facts for Laboring Men and Women." Word was received Monday at Eugene, tbat Clyde Mason, a young man of about 14 years of age, was found dead in his ! bedjat the Conger ranch on the Mc Kenzie, forty-eight miles east of Eugene, Sunday morning. He was stopping at Conner's for a few days hunting, and had been out the day before feeling well. No marks indicated any violence. Commencing Wednesday, August 9, 1893, and until further notice, the following changes will be made in the running of trains on the Portland and Yamhill and Oregonian division : Train No. 83 from Portland to Airlie will run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only, and train No. 34 from Airlie to Portland will run on Tuesdays, Thurs days and Saturdays only. 8. R. Green, who is one of the princi pal owners in the Blue River Mining company informs us that be intends to return to the mines in a few days for the purpose of running another 100-foot tunnel. He will be accompanied by his brothers Clay and John, J. A. Buck, W. L. Beekman. J. W. Grout and a Mr. Nicholas of Ely are still in the mines not having come out when the rest ot the party returned. Win. Myers was in the city on Thurs day and took out a brand now self binder. S. Wheeler aiu' Geo. Hux of Pleasant Home were in the c;ty one day the first of the week. E. E. Charman and family started for Long Beach on Thursday intending to enjoy a brief outing. Assessor J. C. Bradley has received word that his mother who lives at Pleasant Home is verv sick. Sam Engle and daughter of Molalla were the guests of Nathan Moody and wife on Tuesday of this week. Mrs. SI. M. Charman left on Tuesday for Long Beach where she will enjoy the I bracing sea breezes for awhile. C. F. Haynes an J S. Carter and son left on Monday for the Columbia for a few day's hunting and fishing. James Muckle one of the well known sawmill man and a tapatilist of St. Helens was in the city on Monday. A. W. France was intending to start for his ranch near Seaside on Thursday night to be absent about three weeks Wm. Bohlander of the Portland Rest aurant has returned from Mink where he had been visiting his parents for a few days. Dr. J. I.eavitt ot Molalla was in the city on ednesitav on his way home from Seattle where he had leen on a business trip. T. C. Ackerman and wife of Needy passed through the city Wednesday on their way to Oswego to visit the family of C. C. Borland. The tamily of W. R. Reddick is stop pin at the coast belo w Astoria where he intends to join them on Saturday for ' . fav ilat'a nnlinn Mrs. H. E. Cross and family have re turned from the lower Columbia where they have been stopping for some time at the borne of Mrs. Cross' father. Col. R. A. Miller and his brother M. L. Miller are rooming at the residence of J. A. Chase but board at the hotel, which is convenient to their work. Geo. C. Brownell left for New York on Tuesday to look after some legal busi ness for the Portland General Electric Company. He expects to be away till the first of September. Miss Betta Touts and her cousin Miss Francis Fonts of The Dalles, will spend a week with their uncle, Geo. Fox at Portland, while Mr. and Mrs. Fouts are absent at the coast. The MiBses Fannie and Kate Porter and their father J. G. Porter returned the last of the week from their trip to the World's Fair more than pleased with the eight days which they spent at the White City. A. W. Schwan and family and L. A. Nobel and family have gone to Long Beach for a few day's recreation . Their families will remain at the coast several weeks. Grandfather Story, Mrs. C. D. Story and Anna Story left the city last Mon day to spend a couple of weeks at their summer resort near the head waters of Clear Creek. Misses. Hattie Bowers and Frankie Marshall accompanied them. Miss Ruth Cowing returned from her visit to the coast on Wednesday, having stopped in Portland for a few days on her way home. She reports that the beach was visited by a sneak thief dur ing her residence there and many of the dwellers in tents robbed. Judge T. W. Fouts and wife left on Wednesday for Portland intending to take the Ocean Wave the following morning for Long Beach for a ten day's outing, It is a long while since the Judge has had a rest and he feels the need of a little recreation. W. A. Huntley and mother and Misses Neita Barlow, May Kelly and Amy Kelly and Goruon Williams are occupying the W. C. Johnson cottage at Sea View. W. A. Huntley is exac ted back the last of the week to take part in the militia encampment at Gladstone. Rev. M. Angulo Dougherty after a six month's acquaintance with our people has gone East to his old home at Boston. Mr. Doughterty was counted a very brilliant man and a fluent speaker. He leaves many friends here who were sorry that he could not be induced to locate in the city. M. A. Magoon went up the Spring water ridge the last of the week to visit some friends there and afterwards con cluded to go down to his cabin at the falls of the Clackamas. He found to his surprise that the trout there were not stuck after the artificial fly and he could entice but few of them to catch livered to the teachers at Shlyely's hall last Friday evening was enjoyed by all who heard it. He said "Every teacher owes something to his profession ; rverv profession owes something to the puble and the public owes something to every profession. An ice cream social was given Mon day evening under the auspices of a com m it tee of teachers for the enteitainment of the teachers. The Willamette Silver Cornet band and those who had aided at the lecture especially and for the public in general. lhe band furnished excellent music and all went on as nienily as the mar riage bell. A good time was bud by all especially bv those who dished out the icecream. One interesting feature of the mm' al was Mr. A. Cole's phono graph. Died, at the residence of tier sister, Mis. Carl Wolfagen, in Damascus. Clacka mas county. Oregon, Miss Henrietta Smathers, of Clear Creek, on Wednes day at 11 :15 p. in., August 2, 1KH3 and was buried in the Damascus cemetery, August 4, 1893. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Smathers of Clear Creek. She had been a sufferer for six months of consumption, her agd being 17 years, 8 months and 23 days Miss Smathers had a pleasant disposi tion which won her many friends among her associates that she leaves to mourn her loss. The bcreayed ones have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad atllictions. The funeral ser vices were conducted by Rev. J. M.. John ston of Logan. Board of Equalization.
