Horton is con templating building the coming summer on his lots in Gladstone. Clark Ganong is preparing to build a neat cottage at Canemah which he w ill occupy himself when done. Mrs. Augusta Sandstrom of Portland has purchased lota in Gladstone upon which she intends to build at once, A Mr. Montgomery is erecting a neat cottage in the West Side addition. J. Martin A Sons are doing the work. Prof, J. W. Gray's new house is rapid ly nearing completion, and is beginning to speak for itself in point of neatness. C. A. Williams began building a neat cottage at Gladstone on Wednesday, which will cost when completed about flOOO. Messrs. Kinnaird & Johnson have just completed surveying and platting an ad dition of six acres for Geo. C. Ely. This addition will shortly be placed on the market. The Willamette l.and Company are providing for thedemand lor small tracts by having Kinnard A Johnson plat an addition in acre tracts lying contiguous to Park Place. It contains some beauti ful locations. The rock crusher is being set up on the level space cleared for the bottom of thoroughly cooled there will be but little melting. The company are supply ing families with Ice at very reasonable rates, and this Industry is calculated to add in no small degree to the quality and freshness of foods that can he served in every household. The proprietors are meeting with so much encouragement in the sale of Ice that they are already contemplating doubling the capacity of their plant. They are also planning to build a large store house with a capacity of 4iH) tons or more In which ice will be stored in winter when orders for dom estic use are slack. The contract was let by Dr. J. V. Welch on Monday for his new two-story store and hall building at tho cornel of Seventh and High streets, Mullen A Wishart being tho successful builders, the figures being a tritle under t'JOOO. The lower story w ill be divided into two store rooms both of which will be oc cupied by David Caufleld, one as a grocery store and the other as a meat market. The upper floor will be fitted up by the Falls Citv I.ogde No. fill A O. U. W. for a lodge room. The stores are to be ready for occupancy by the first of July, and the contractors have already begun work. As the water is quite deep at this point and the bottom un even it is rot unlikely that difficulties will be exx'rienced in getting a dam built that will stand the strain of the outside waters and stop old leaks. Besides this it may trouble the builders to prevent water from coming in (rom the lix-ka which are away above the bottom of the w heel pits. However in this ago of progress there is no doubt but what any obstacles which may be met w ill be successfully overcome. Sylvanus soon joined the happy couple for life.
