The steamer Manxanillo last Tuesday began running through from Minion landing to Portland. She now makes one round trip a day leaving Mission at 6 a.m. and Portland at 2 p. m. Moser, Park Place. Gorton's Minstrels gave a good enter tainment at Shively'a theater last Fri day evening. Ths program varied from the usual burnt cork performance. The music was excellent and it was of course the chief feature. It was the best class of minstrel work. Rev. H. L. Barkley, presiding elder, will hold the quarterly meeting for the United Brethren church in this city com mencing July 23 at 2 p. m., and con tinuing through the 24th. The public is most cordially invited to attend these services. Geo. A. Harding is making sundry improvements about his drug store. New sills are beingjut under the store and the whole structure straightened up and put in good condition . That old frame building was erected about thirty years ago snd has done good service. Another proposition is soon to be pre sented to the citizens of Corvallis for the purpose of establishing a woolen mill at that point. The parties, who are in the East, atk that a subsidy of $5500 be raised, which shall be paid to them after the mill has been in operation for 30 days to the satisfaction of the citizens. The outfit represents a value of several thousand dollars. To meet the demand of the trade C. A. The new county commasionsr, K. i Scott, sat for the first time with Judge Meldruin and Commissioner ltalr at the July term of court which lasted from Wednesday to Friday. In the matter of the E. L. Baker road the report of viewer and field note and plat filed together with expense account of fcl7.S0 and claim for damage. The excuse account wa ordered paid and permission was given to the filing of an amended claim for damage. Joel P. Geer, J. L. Kruse and Frank Ford ap pointed appraisers, to meet July 23 at II. H. Eyman' residence. The Canby and Buckman road was ordered opened and the expense account of 26 40 allowed. J. S. Kittley, William Boring ant Albert Cook were appointed viewer and appraiser of damage in the Harmony road matter to meet at Alfred Clark' at 10 a. m. July 23. Expense account of 26 20 ordered paid. The claim for damages were presented by A. C. Kanne Mary Ryan and Joseph Pilling. The field note in the matter of the Larkin road were approved and ordered recorded and expense of $14.50 ordered i paid. The petition of C. T. Howard and i others for a road was granted and County Surveyor Smyth was instructed to survey and Enoa Cahill, Eli Maddock and William Knight to view said load, to meet at Mutino July 21 at 10 a. ra. The same action wa had in the matter of the' road petition of S. B. Kent and others, Marion Samson, J. B. Noe and J, W. Cochrane being named viewers to meet at the place of beginning July 18 at 10 a. ra. In the matter of the application for a change in the right of way to the East Side railwaycomoany an order was made annulling the franchise on Front street, Milwaukee, and prescribing certain conditions on Main street in the way of requiring a good grade and that travel be not obstructed. The boundary line between the two Oregon City election precincts was hanged so as to ie as follows: The change to begin at tne northwest corner of Oregon City No. 1 and southwest, corner of Oregon City No 2 in the mid- j die of the Willamette river and running thence easterly on the center line of Seveuth street fwolonged to the west end of Seventh street in Oregon City, thence easterly along the center line of Seventh street to a point where the center line of block No. 24 in Oregon City, dividing said block into east and west halves intersects, said center line of Seventh street, thence northerly along the center line of said block No. 24 to the center line of the alley running east and west through said block No. 24. ; thence easterly along the center line of said alley to Intersect the center line of Seventh street, thence easterly along the center line of Sevetnb street to the south boundary of Oregon City The action of the judge in procuring six road scrapers and issuing one each to districts 11, 33, 43, 44 and 76 was approved. It was also ordered that the judge procure sixteen new index records for deeds and that the present books be rebound. Commissioner Moehnke wa directed to examine the Upper Clackamas bridge and report on its condition. The clerk was instructed to advertise for forty-five cords of fir wood for the courthouse. J. E. Smith was granted the use of the road near Osweito in quarrying rock provided he did not encroach upon the right of way below the grade. The annual reports of the clerk, treas urer and school superintendent were ap proved and ordered filed. The bonds of the new county officers were approved. Supervisor Zimmerman was author ized to procure blasting materials to the value of $40 for road district Ko. 04. Supervisor Irwin was directed to make the necessary repair on the lower Molalla bridge. The proposition of Hugh Peters to sell a road roller was declined. The report of ekperts who examined the sheriff's accounts was laid over and they weie directed to make further ex amination in the matter. The clerk was authorized to advertise for bids for building a bridge over Tual atin river on the F. V. Campbell road. The petition of E. B. Ramsby et al for a road was dismissed as neither bond nor proof of posting notices was filed. One hundred and fifty dollars was ap propriated to be expended in improving the Carson bridge and Baker's ferry road under the direction of Supervisor W. H. Smith. E. Parker was awarded contract, for the work on the Oregon City and Cut ting's mill road, the improvement to be gin at the Vance claim line and $1000 to be expended. The contract for building a bridge over Deep creek was awarded to C. F. Royal for $44, and $30 for filling piers with rock. R. Scott was appointed to superintend the job. Thoma J. McFarland of Oswego was granted a saloon license. The State Normal school at Monmouth has made a remaraable irrowth during the past year, as shown In a gain cf SO per cent in attendance over the attend-. ance of the year before. The enrollment this year reached 400 students and the faculty anticipate that the number will reach nearly 600 next year. The school is wide-awake, full of life, and draws a remarkably flue body of students. Too new memliers have recently been added to the faculty. Prof. P. A. Gets, a graduate of the Millersville,Pennyslvania, State Normal, and Miss Alice L. Priest, a graduate of Cornell uniyersity. The music depart ment has also been strengthened by Mis Fanny A. Avers, a specialist in vocal culture, who has studied with some of the most famous singers of America. The school is broadening its work In many ways and i rapidly adding to Its facilities for the training of teachers. The raipld growth of the school would Indicate that it is doing sll in its power to merit the highest degree of success, A Painful Accident. Last Sunday Misses Marie Asclioff and Minnie Jaggar of Marmot were taking a horseback ride for pleasure to Elk Flat, when Miss AschofTs saddle turned. She Was unable to free herself and her pony, becoming frightened, jumped about her helpless form, kicking and striking in all directions. Fortu nately Christian Donovan, who was go ing to Salmon river, was present and promptly lent assistance. It was found tlfut the pony had struck her right arm, and broken both bones above the wrist, besides causing several bruises. A wagon was procured from Mr. Moore, and the patient brought borne, where the arm was set and placed in splints. Miss Aschoff is a first rate horsewoman, but a loose saddle Is dangerous thing.
